Essential FPS boost !

For you newer players who might be struggling with mid range pc's for decent fps like I was until today.
Each map has a different draw distance setting for some reason.
This is how far from your current position your gpu will render objects from.

west coast for example is set to 4000m
italy is set to 25000m

Typically draw distance is a graphic setting within games but in beamng its a track effect set individually for each map.
I cant imagine why, seems like a debug function to me for development purposes to have such higher draw distance set.
Draw distance needs to be a global graphic setting and not a tucked away map editor function !

You only need to see 512m on a race track maybe 1000m ahead of you on a straight freeway, so why would you want villages and stuff on the other side of the map that you cant even see, loading into your gpu raping your fps ?
I mean sure for someone with a very high end rig its no problem I guess but even so, do you really need to punish your expensive gpu's by having everything your not near loaded into it ?

So I set mine to 512m and drove around west coast and italy maps with a significant boost in performance and able to use ai traffic between 40-60 fps on italy.
Up from 20-30.

In mp I can render more player cars before it becomes unplayable forcing me to hide cars because the gpu is not stuffed full of map elements from 3 or 4 miles away lol.


Set the draw distance to 20 to see how it really works, you will see the world is now a 20x20 sphere with your car in the middle.

Determine for yourself how far ahead you really need your gpu to render for your style of gameplay.

How to:

after a map is loaded, mp or sp
1. press F11 for the map editor
2. type levelinfo in the left side search box and click the filename levelinfo that appears below.
3. on the right side now you will see some settings, look for visual distance, usually a high number set in the thousands.
4. set your desired test number, click file and save at the top left.

I hope that helps some players, particularly in the beammp community.
It deffo helped me, i can do laps with more cars on the track around me now.

and op good advice
and with the render distance reduced you can increase the shadow distance a bit aswell to get rid of annoying shadows popping in 20 meters down the road
