Realistic Mirrors in BeamNG?
Is there a way to have the mirrors work in a real way. Right now I have everything pretty much on high but its still not really realistic. In real life you would be able to see your own car, at least the end of it, but not right now. Is there like a special option or is there a mod out there for that purpose?

Thats sad. I'm doing my drivers license and this is one of the best and most realistic games to learn for it. Everything else is so realistic

currently the mirrors are just a regular reflective surface, which uses the same cubemap method as the other reflections of the vehicle.

Well... You can kinda use the mirrors. But in that case you should rely on your eyes.

You can see whats behind your car in the mirrors with dynamic reflections on, but it might lag your game

Currently, the way the do mirrors seem to consume a lot of performance, which might explain why they have just one reflection map for the whole vehicle. And having just one reflection map, it's not really possible to have reflections both outside and inside the vehicle make sense at the same time.

Well yes, but actually no. Yeah you can see whats behind you, but thats not my point, I know that. Its that you cant see your own vehicle in the reflection to give some kind of perspective on what youre seeing behind you.

No. Mirrors in any game are a massive demand. Youre asking the game to draw call two scenes relative to you.

The first draw isnt 360, its your fov. The second in the mirrors is another render.

I would love to see interior as well.

Forza has a good implementation, Assetto Corsa, ETS+ATS. Beamng is the only car based game that doesnt have working/good working mirrors in it.
Ive heard its because of the way the game is being rendered but honestly I dont think its that big of a deal if normal AI cars or just other cars in general can be perfectly rendered in the mirrors but not your own car.

It's because they never tried it

What would happen if the mirror were fixed in place as a separate object. If we only calculated reflections on the mirrors? That would solve the problem in principle, wouldn't it?

After all, in that case, our current car would also function as a separate component. It would be visible in the mirror.
