Poor Map Performance Even After CPU upgrade
Just got an i7 4790K installed today. I also have 16gb of ram and a gtx 980ti.
Despite this upgrade however, the performance I'm getting in most maps is still awful. They never used to be this like a year ago on my i5 4570. What's the excuse for this?

might be your graphics settings. i don't see why a cpu upgrade would improve map performance
Kirby Sep 5, 2021 @ 4:12am
map performance is up to the gpu really. and the game has gotten more graphically intensive to run, with the pbr update, even then not by much, lower grass density, i've noticed it eats a lot of gpu resources.

That doesn't make sense, my GPU runs 65% at the most with my current settings. I notice when I spawn so much as 2 more cars on these maps the FPS drops even more so it's gotta be a CPU performance issue.

Idk either, maybe the game is just poorly optimized and the devs don't care?

could also be pretty old hardware on your end, i can easily get over 60 fps on any map.
with a r5 3600, gtx 1660.

Graphics settings need tweaking for sure. Has always ran perfect on mine (capped @ 50FPS) I'm running old hardware: i7 990X, 16GB DDR3 (with GTX 1070) This game has always been heavily CPU intensive. Although mine tuns well, i am planning an overclock on the CPU, I just need to be careful and choose the correct O/C presets for optimal results from an older chip, even though these were designed to be overclocked!

It's old but damn powerful. This game was made in 2013 and if anything car physics have been optimised really well since then. On the grid map I managed like 6 vehicles (5 trucks and a car) before having any noticeable lag/slight stuttering. It's really just the maps I'm having trouble with.

How well can you run the city map with like 3 cars? Mine stutters a lot at that much and is unplayable with like 4 cars.

You forgot that the game is not running on 2013 version of the engine and the subsystems of graphics and sound have been reworked.

His CPU has 6 cores and yours has only 4, so he can run more vehicles.

1. I know, but it was running fine a year ago even.

2. Ok and?

This is all true mate. CPU cores are the rule of thumb in this game. But also not forgetting speed. My cache amount is nothing like the modern ones. I can manage 6 or 7 cars on virtually all the 'vanilla' maps. It does struggle on more detailed parts like certain roads on Italy or West Coast for example. I do have all my presets set to 'high' but dynamic reflections turned off. I also look at the post-FX menu and have tuned that slightly too. It really is trial and error. I have been playing this since it came out, and have never done a 'full re-install'. I have had to repair it s few times, but that was just mods that broke it because i had about 40 running at one point!🙄🙈 I now keep it to around 20 very good ones.

Lucky.

All I want is a reason for why these maps are running like crap compared to a year ago. The graphics update shouldn't have a negative affect on CPU performance but i've been proven otherwise.

Hey, listen to this. Check the clock speed of your GPU, I've had a problem recently where my GPU was working at idle clock speeds and voltage while in the game (and no it didn't use the integrated graphics or anything like that, it was using my main GPU but didn't utilize it for some reason). When this happens you can go to BeamNG folder find bin64 and run Beamng.exe through there.

i used to have your exact set up and now upgrading to a modern cpu has made sooo much difference, getting a modern gpu didn't make too much difference but the modern cpu did
