What's wrong with A.I.?
Hi, I haven't played since few months and I run the game and the A.I. became so stupid it makes playing it impossible. I like police chase scenarios but every single time it's pointless because A.I. keeps crashing all the time. It it goes off the road, hits the trees, can't drive etc. I've cleared cache and moved user folder (without copying anything) but it didn't help. Every scenario ends by A.I. crashing something and I win because he can't drive but I did nothing..

I get the same problem too. Never found a fix....

It's also a complete idiot in other scenarios too. I tried spicing up bus routes with AI traffic, they honk for no reason, turn sideways in straight roads and they stay there, they stop completely when I go near them. Especially annoying if they won't turn in an intersection, they just stay there, blocking the road when you queue up behind them. You actually have to tailgate them slowly to make them move, not very bus driver like....

Yes its virtually impossible to get a decent chase involving multiple turns to last even a minute without Ai crashing or getting stuck.
Press f10 and select Ai script manager from the tools tab.
Then you can create custom routes using record, play and save.
I recommend learning this if you enjoy police chases.
Good luck

Some examples I've made.
This is the type of chase scripting is good for.

And this is about the best type of chase you'll get without Ai scripting.

As you can see you can be much more specific with scripting.

You need to understand that the AI in BeamNG.drive is completely different from what other games are doing. It's closer to what Tesla autopilot is doing than else.

Most games' AI is done by cheating. By providing pre-made racing lines, more grip to their cars and so on. This does not happen here.

Our AI is driving using the exact same physics and overall conditions as the players are using. It is finding the route and optimizing the race line on its own dynamically at runtime. It has similar problems and research requirements, as car companies have with self driving cars.

It's a complex beast on its own, and requires lot of time, effort and research to perfection.

I understand the level of complexity etc. but the thing is it was working great when traffic A..I was released and I was just thinking that the problem may be caused because of wrong config or something. Well, I'll just wait. Thanks for the info. ;)

If you guys turn on the AI tool in the apps menu, you can change the "risk" the AI will take. Basically it makes them drive more carefully and for me has resulted in far less crashes in police chases.

Could you tell me where exactly are those options? I can't find it.

Ok so when you press esc and open up the left side panel, there is a button called apps (or something like that). You then are going to hit the big plus button in the middle of the screen, which will bring up a menu of things you can add to you screen.

You are going to look for one called AI panel (or something like that) It looks like a bunch of white text boxes. Once you add it you should have it on your screen during normal game play.

Now just spawn another car to chase you, set its ai to chase (the top box on the new app you added) and then change the parameters to whatever you want (usually it starts at either 1 or 0.3)

Awesome thanks, I'm very familiar with traffic app and Ai route scripting but I missed this app.
Good one :)

I cannot complete field run because the isolated vehicle in front of me cannot remain on 4 wheels or the road. I struggle to see how in a chase scenario you wouldn't at least have a set of lines so the level is able to be completed... or at least played in its entirety I've seen probably 10% of the track! I respect the advanced physics I love this game paired with automation the solo driving aspects are fantastic but the ai truly awful

sorry i didn't understand the analogy with tesla autopilot. I thought beamng had a pre-made navigation mesh that AI just blindly follows and within the navmesh it tries to avoid other cars, as in any other racing game.
