Can you please provide a video showing the issue, that we can use as reference to replicate this?
Or even official vehicles (ie. no mods enabled)?
If only that vehicle, it's possible it's related to how its built. Maybe send us a copy of that vehicle you used above so we can give it a try too.
Can you please try again in Safe Mode, and if it happens, specify the vehicle & configuration you used. We need to be able to replicate the issue in order to see what's happening there.
I've just attempted what you suggested and now I can't seem to get a time on stock vehicles at all. For instance, I just started the game in Safe Mode, selected the drag strip on free roam, selected the default Barstow, completely stock and attempted a drag.
I tried launching by setting the revs in neutral and then dropping into gear at green, I also tried just launching from first gear and no revs and still the same. I have even intentionally launched late and none are registering a time.
Arcade mode gearbox seems to work but realistic gearbox isn't working for me.
Tonight I attempted similar runs but waited for the opponent first and I seemed to be getting successful time recordings on the drag strip.
My current thinking is that this may be a program logic issue surrounding the instruction that appears saying something like please approach the starting line.
The drag race apparently can commence regardless of who approaches the line first but perhaps the logic running the timer isn't quite working when I approach the line before the opponent?
