So the game doesnt see my controller...
I have a Razer raiju, its a ps4 controller that i HAVE set up through steam, but the thing is I cant use it ingame, it works in other games, perfectly infact, some backstory is. It had worked fine on my old laptop, I then got a new pc, (windows 10) and now it doesnt work...(another thing to note is that ingame overlay is also none functioning however steam does say im playing beamng.drive.) So when I go to change my controls, the only button that works is the right trigger, which when used to bind a control is labeled as "mouse 0" and also the menu button works... then going into the "hardware" list the only things that pop up are "Keyboard" and "mouse" and when using my controller it lists buttons as weird outputs, left shoulder is left control and right shoulder is lalt, left trigger is button one but also moves xaxis and yaxis the tiniest bit, right trigger just activates button 0. So whats the issue? Its confusing since it had been working on the other computer (was windows 7) and so win10 could be doing something evil.

Some settings related to Steam are known to cause similar issues.
Please go in Steam Big Picture > Settings > Controller Settings and disable all the checkboxes.
Then see if the controller works correctly.

So now the controller appears in the hardware list as an Xbox controller, and also none of the buttons do anything

Running with X360 controller emulator (ps4-xboxone mapper) didnt fix it

Did you install the drivers for that controller?

Can I use my Razer Raiju on Steam as a PS4 controller?

Yes! Although the Razer Raiju is recognised as an XInput Controller, if the Razer Raiju driver is installed

XInput is what you need (ie. Xbox-Controller-Like). If you don't have the drivers, install them.

so steam actually sees the controller as an xbox controller, and beamng seems to be splitting all the controlls through keyboard mouse and its newly listed "xbox controller" but none of the buttons are mappable

so i have two different mappers i have tested, https://inputmapper.com/ and https://www.x360ce.com/ which both have worked in the past for other games, on razers page i did go through this "Can I use my Razer Raiju on Steam as a PS4 controller?

Yes! Although the Razer Raiju is recognised as an XInput Controller, if the Razer Raiju driver is installed, you can switch the driver to use Razer Raiju as a PS4 controller on Steam (Please install latest Steam Beta and select "PS4 configuration support" under Steam settings):

Open Device Manager
Find "Razer Raiju" under "Human Interface Devices"
Right Click and Update Device Software
Select "Browse my computer for driver software"
Select "Let me Pick from a list of device drivers on my computer"
Choose "HID-compliant game controller" and click "Next"
After the driver is updated, close the window and click "Yes" to restart your computer" all with no change, ran the game by itself, ran it with input mapper and then with x360, didnt do anything to help. the ONLY difference is now steam sees the controller as a ps4 controller and not an xbox controller, however beamng still thinks theres a xbox controller plugged in.

Also check what USB port you are pluging it into? USB 2 or USB 3 it does make a difference.
Hmm, i have been swapping between two in my front IO (usb 3.0 and usb 2.0) i think the main problem is the fact that when i open beamng steams not regestering it properly, like theres no steam overlay and when im in big picture i cant change controller settings.

You really need to avoid using any of these 'emulators' software for the controller.
That also refers to the Steam Big Picture settings, as they gave problems to other users.
They could potentially conflict with the game's input system.

What you need to achieve is the game working as an Xbox controller, which according to that controller web page is doable by simply installing the drivers.

Then nothing else really, it should just work
(as far you do not have any of these emulators stuff kicking in)

I have done several tests without the emulators, with both of these

Can I use my Razer Raiju on PC games outside of Steam?

Absolutely! You can play most of the PC games outside of Steam with the Razer Raiju as it is recognised as an XInput Controller if the Razer Raiju driver is installed. If you have switched the driver to use it for Steam games before, simply switch the driver back to the Razer Raiju driver to play games outside of Steam:

Open Device Manager
Find "HID-compliant game controller" under "Human Interface Devices"
Right Click and Update Device Software
Select "Search automatically for updated driver software"
After the driver is updated, close the window and click "Yes" to restart your computer
