A Decent Controller Configuration?
Almost two years playing this game (AWESOME WORK OUT THERE GUYS) and still we don't have a DECENT gameplay support for gamepads.

We have, now, a proper support with pre-mapped Xbox/PS4 Controllers, but the gameplay side is a nightmare!

The reason is handling is raw. Even using the "Force Feedback Options" to change Deadzone's and Linearity, the car still messes up the handling and YOU CAN'T FULL COMMIT YOURSELF on the Sticks.

Because there's a lack of Speed Filter (The faster you are, the less the wheel turns), meaning at 120mph's, pushing your stick for micro adjustments will wildly rotate the wheel, causing loss of traction, making your car look like a Fidget Spinner (Civetta Bolide feelings).

Is there a mod or something that adds this Speed Filter or limit the wheel turning radius?

Shout out for B.NG devs for the amazing sound update! (I swear I will play this damn stuuf 24/7 once fixed this issue).

As someone who does not own a FFB steering wheel/petals cobo, I can tell you, you need one.
You simply can not full into driving without good Peripherals. If you wish to take the sim part seriously you are going to need to invest.

It's like trying to fly in a flight sim without a joystick.

I believe it's more a per-person thing.
Many people do not have problems with the current setup, just need to find a prefer amount of 'non-linearity' and it will pretty much do it.

Anyhow, took note.
We will see what can be done.

I do understand that a Steering Wheel will solve this issue. But for a more general impact, meaning being more enjoyable for the biggest number of players possible, this is a interesting feature that doesn't need to be obligatory - those that are used to the current gamepad settings wouldn't complain.

Oh, and I did played hours of Flight Sims with PS3 gamepads with good precision, so is not impossible (difficult, though).

Thanks for replying!

Also a huge thumbs up for your work! Beam.NG has been the best Early Access experience I've ever had and certainly I can say that every penny worth the investment!

Looking forward to the next updates!!

Try steering angle settings? set to zero or as high as about 540 for DS4 took me a while to get used to driving smoother in-game you'll find the sweet spot for linearity

Using a wired Xbox 360 gamepad, I found myself with similar vehicle control frustrations.

After about a week of dealing with what I thought was the best I could get out of the game's Linearity and Deadzone setting, I just read in a different forum about the Filter pull down menu.

It was on Automatic the whole time, once I switched it to Pad, the steering became much more reasonably controllable. No more excessive delay or lag in steering response, it feels more real life now to me.

Moral of the story, try all the settings.

Can confirm the default mapping is a mess and obviously a steering wheel is everyone's choice if that's possibility ofc.

This post is from 4 years ago. Gamepad support was massively improved, but you're still dealing with super complex physics beneath the game, so yeah: a steering wheel is ideal.

FFB got better in my G29 after last update tho
