How do you start your car?

I've gone thru all the forums looking for ways to start a car and tried everything I've found from pressing "V" to LShift+V, starting the game in safe mode, using the "Realistic" transmission mode and retying all of the previous and even the radial menu which has absolutely nothing about starting your engine. Did I just pay $24.99 for a few scenery pictures I could have ripped off the internet for free?

Use a different car, you're probably using a broken modded one

since it sounds like you just bought the game you shouldnt have any mods, if you do, please remove them as they can cause alot of problems if they are outdated/broken

if you dont have any mods when you load the game (load map, spawns truck) what happens?
a. car just sits there
b. car revs without moving

a. there should be a button next to the spedometer for the engine (if not press esc and find the apps menu, press + and find the simple powertrain control)
b. press 'q' to change gear box

but you should be able to just load and go.

It's already been checked and shows a position for it on the screen but when I back out of the options menu the controls don't show up anywhere. And the car just sits there.

so what does the car do? does it rev when you press on the up arrow? or is the engine off
yes holding 'V' does turn the engine on, but are you in the right transmission mode? arcade?
realistic mode is for manual shifting

Well IDK what the deal is but the initial car I start with always seems to be bugged out. For whatever reason the problem is fixed when I just spawn in a second car right off the bat.

It depends on the vehicle.
All the official ones have that feature.
While, if you are using a mod, it may not have that feature (The mod itself could be old, or its author maybe didn't add some of those features on purpose).

To start/stop the engine, you just have to press 'V'. Doesn't matter if in 'Arcade' or 'Realistic' mode.

You can also just press the 'Start/Stop' button, which should be on your UI by default.


So, first make sure you are not using a mod.

Then, please specify the exact vehicle/configuration you are having problems with.
