co-op crossplay option is blocked on xbox - cannot enable or disable

my friend and i are trying to play co-op on avatar, i am playing on pc and i can see he is online in the co-op section. i was also able to send him an invite. however, my friend cannot see that i am online and when he goes into co-op settings to enable cross-play it says crossplay is blocked and he cannot enable or disable it. any ideas of why this might be?

Thank you for your post and sorry to hear that you cannot play co-op with your friend on Xbox.

There are certain in-game progress requirements to unlock co-op functionality.
Co-op will become available after meeting Etuwa and completing ''The Aranahe Clan'' quest in Kinglor Forest. Make sure your friend meets this requirement.

Also, check with your friend if his console is set to cross-network play[support.xbox.com]
