But I know the rules and I perfectly understand the risks on using a insider Windows.
Nonetheless, the only thing that doesn't work on my 24h2 rigs are the last games of Ubisoft.
Sorry to hear it Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora crashes on your PCs.
It's true that Windows 11 24H2 is now the official and latest version.
If you used 24H2 before, when it was still an Insider Preview test version, make sure you are now on the official build.
Sadly, I'm not sure how the process of leaving the Insider Preview distribution channel works and if you can install the official build, free of issues that were reported during the test phase, without reinstalling your system.
Can you tell us at what stage does the game crash? It is on launch, on loading your save or randomly during the gameplay?
Please check of there are now version of your GPU drivers. With the new version of Windows 11 we can expect new drivers as well.
Hi Vinci,
My system is:
AMD 5900x
3090 GPU
32gb Corsair ram (3600 mt) (but tried without xmp too)
ASUS ROG Crosshair VIII Hero (WI-FI) (x570 motherboard) BIOS 4805
Samsung 980 PRO SSD
Worked fine on 23h2. After installing 24h2 it now crashes to desktop with no event log error or windows crash report popup. It happens just as the save loads and the world is going to appear, or it's during the game, within seconds or up to 15 minutes time.
Sometimes after opening the map or within the menu after loading into world.
I have it on Ubisoft Connect, not Steam. I also messaged Ubisoft support but haven't heard back yet.
I've tried:
Reinstalling Windows via the Windows update option (not reset).
Clean boot with only Nvidia drivers and networking
Disable startup items
Nvidia drivers 565.90 and 561.09 tried
Disabling MPO with Nvidia reg file
Disable Ubisoft Connect Overlay
Disable HAGS and Windows optimisations for games
Run as Admin
Run without any Windows scaling
Disable XPM on RAM
Edit: Disable virtualisation in bios
A new user account
Clear Ubisoft Connect Cache
Disable SMT and second CCD - so only 6 cores and threads total (EDIT: still crashed)
Is this info on Reddit true?
https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsOutlaws/comments/1fziav5/digital_foundry_massive_entertainment_working/?rdt=43492
Intel 9i
32gb
1Tb SSD
Nvidia RTX 3080i
Same here, Avatar and Outlaw crash with Windows 11 Version 24H2
Really sorry to hear you all experience these crashes on Windows 11 24H2.
I cannot really tell anything regarding the Reddit post.
One thing worth noting in that post is the KB5041587 mentioned in it.
Has anyone of you checked if you have this update installed and if it's possible to uninstall it?
I tested the game myself and it does not crash on my AMD CPU, B450 motherboard and Nvidia GPU system. But I do not have the 24H2 version despite checking for updates manually several times. It does not show up for an upgrade yet in my location.
I will be raising an internal ticket for this issue, however, if anyone can, please check this KB5041587.
The game crashes on 24h2 since 24h2 is avalaible (insider and now official)
The game crashes very quicky, within minutes of playing, even seconds....Sometimes it crashes in the menu.
A test very simple is just running the ingame performance test....usually the game will close without warning before the end of the first run...if the first run succeed, which happens sometimes, It crashes in the second consecutive run...
I will play again this game the day I can launch 10 times this test !
I've spent more than 8 hours testing this since I bought it....And it's 8 hours of testing, not playing....Ubisoft seems to have the same problem with Star Wars Outlaws which may cleary indicate that there is a problem on 24h2 (without any doubt) due to the common graphic engine.
Though I think that 8 hours of testing (and I tried a lot, really a lot, of things, even stupid ones) is more than enough, each time there is a new graphic driver (nvidia for me on all my PCs) or a new update Microsoft, I'm making a performance test, because I'm curious, with Avatar and the result is always the same : Crash...
The only thing I didn't not test is going back to 23H2....Because I don't want to do that.
The problem might be related to something Microsoft has brought on its operating system but the thing is Avatar really is not playable on 24h2.
This problem could and should have been detected and adressed months ago (Insider is a good way to do this in a standard quality an risk management process) and fixed for official release of 24h2 (Star Wars Outlaws which is recent, has this very same problem).
....
Hi Vinci,
It's an update only for 23H2. Referred to here:
https://www.techpowerup.com/326010/amd-ryzen-branch-prediction-optimizations-now-available-to-windows-11-23h2?cp=2
https://community.amd.com/t5/gaming/ryzen-9000-series-community-update-gaming-performance/ba-p/704054
Once you have 24h2 installed you have the same patch but it's build into 24h2 and there is no way to uninstall it.
Also you might not have 24h2 it as it's a gradual roll-out.
I really hope the game gets a fix, at least before my monthly sub ends. This game is one of the reasons why I paid for Ubisoft+.
I am on the latest build of Windows 11 (24h2), i9 14900K, RTX 4090.
The only thing that has worked for me is adding the Vulkan dll files and getting it to run on that, but I cannot use DLSS with it so I refuse to play the game until it gets fixed.
Before it was running fine, i did a fresh install of windows 24h2 and now it crashes after 5 min or so. this is the only game that does crash other company games are running fine.
@Dave136, thanks for expending the KB5041587 update and the fact that it is built-in in Windows 11 24H2.
I do confirm, we received more reports of some games (Avatar included) crashing much more often on Windows 11 24H2 latest version.
Our teams are already aware of this issue and they are working on finding the reason behind it and fixing it.
In the meantime, please try all the steps from our PC troubleshooting guide:
