Report a translation problem
Try to make sure the Ubisoft launcher stays open between tries. I believe that's how it worked with mine.
Specifically I hit cancel on the activation code window and then launched it again from my Steam Library (hitting the "Play" button).
Post here what happens. If you cannot get in soon on your own hopefully support gets to you ASAP!

General response from Support can take up to 2 months.
It does work for most people. They should try it and if it still doesn’t work then they should submit a support ticket.
After that you don't need the original launcher.
Could be an issue because the standalone ubisoft connect is more newer than the one that comes with the game.
I have it installed anyway, so I took me just 2 times to login to ubisoft connect to play the game on steam.
