Edit: Despite being marked as "Family Sharing Enabled" there is no Family Sharing on this title.
EDIT: I revised the title. This post began as a post praising Ubisoft for finally embracing some of Steam's features. Turns out there is no family sharing for this, like most Ubisoft games.

They marked it as supporting that on the store page, and it's actually a large part of why I bought the game now vs waiting further.

But the feature is simply not supported, so I wanted to make people aware of that in case it influences your purchasing decision like it did for me.

I wish Ubisoft would make it work, like they do on consoles, but I'm not hopeful.

I hope to see a future where Ubisoft fully embrace Steam but we aren't there yet unfortunately, despite the glimmer of hope with them at least adding Achievements support (which I am still grateful for).
----------
Original message (when I was excited to see that the game supported Family Sharing):
Don't get me wrong, I still find their launcher inconvenient. But I find this to be a step in the right direction, and I think it is worth praising that they listened to the community at least a little bit to use Steam's features. None of their recent games have supported Family Sharing, and only some of them have supported Achievements, but this does both.

It's the main reason I picked it up now vs waiting for a further sale to be honest.

This is still better than nothing, though technically inconvenient, its still more convenient than steam blocking the title as a whole from sharing.
2. Steam and Ubisoft shake hands well enough with Family Sharing, that Ubisoft Connect now understands if you are accessing a steam family share title and appropriately allows another connected ubisoft account to access the title.

I personally believe that realistically, 1 is going to be the outcome, but 2 being the outcome would be awesome.

Sadly, the real answer is option #3: There is NO family sharing of any kind on this title, and Ubisoft has marked it erroneously or has falsely advertised it as having a beloved feature like this when in reality it doesn't work in any way, shape or form.

I just got done testing it. My wife is part of my Steam Family. We tried to have her access the game. While it showed up in her library, trying to boot it while logging into her own Ubisoft account threw an error that it "cannot verify ownership" of the game.

So we tried having her log into my Ubisoft account instead, where I *do* have a license for the game. No luck there either. Same error.

There is definitively no family sharing. This is part of why I bought the game. This was incorrectly marked. I wish Ubisoft would do the right thing here and make it actually work with family sharing. Instead, they'll probably do the Ubisoft thing and just unmark it as "Family Sharing Enabled". Sad. I was beginning to feel Ubisoft is changing.
Really unfortunate. I wonder who notated that detail. I looked on Steam DB and the value for Family sharing being added was modified to be so on the 17th. Unfortunately, steamdb doesn't seem to notate who or what modified the value, only that it was modified. I can only assume Ubisoft/Massive Entertainment.

How does the family sharing work? Does everyone use the same Ubisoft account or does everyone use their own Ubisoft account
Winchester7314 Jun 18, 2024 @ 7:07pm
Yes, I was also curious about this...in the past, Ubisoft games slipped through the exclusion filter, but it didn't matter because the external launcher still required your own ubisoft account to play. Is that the case here? Or is it straight forward any ubisoft account that is steam sharing can use it?

It doesn't work for me and my family. My son can't launched the game and sometimes the launcher will say it is unable to verify ownership of the game for him.

I am not sure family share works... How did you set it up?

Could someone who has been able to test it please clarify this question?
Does family sharing really work with this tilte or is it like the other Ubisoft games that don't even appear in the shared library?
Thx

You can't family share Ubisoft games. And this one is no different .

Its weird though that steam specifically flags it for Family sharing though. Its flagged that way on the store page. If its not the case, I wonder who dropped the ball there, Steam or Ubisoft 🤔

I assumed it works because it shows in my family's library, unlike other Ubi games. That said, my brother wasn't interested to test it right now. Sounds like maybe it doesn't actually work?

Hard telling. Despite making such a knowledgable statement, Snipy does not actually own the game, so his statementdiesn't hold much weight. My friend has it on his list to try, so Im hoping if he installs aoon, we can get an answer.

I own the game on Ubisoft.
Don't need second CRAP Steam BLOATWARE DRM when playing the game !

On the topic :
In order to family share the game, you would have to direct access, to both Steam and Ubisoft account.
Steam alone do family share only Steam games, but in this case you can't share Ubisoft game, as the other person do not have access to Ubisoft account of the owner.

Thank you for making my point.

Alright guys I’m gonna test this now with a family member to get us a definitive answer. Too much guessing here.

Steam allows my son to family share it but it doesn't work. Steam says "Running". Ubisoft connect just craps the bed because even though my son is signed into my Ubisoft account, it silently doesn't run the game. You have to click on Stop in steam.

If Ubisoft connect does ask for credentials it will sometimes give an error that it cannot verify ownership of product.

This is probably because my Ubisoft account is linked to my Steam account. If I linked my Son's Steam account to my Ubisoft if may work for him, but then I probably wouldn't be able to launch the game.

Ubisoft Connect just has to go. Such crap
