Low FPS on RTX 3080 and i7 14700k 1440p
So the system requirements are saying rtx 3060Ti, yet i just made it to the open world and my frames just tanked right down to 40-45fps. Im seeing people saying they run this fun on an RTX 3080 so im not sure whats going on?

Edit: Thanks for the help everyone it was User error i wasnt restarting my game after applying my settings. After doing so im now running the game on high-ultra settings with DLSS enabled at 70-100+fps.

Raytracing isn't listed as Raytracing.
Certain options (like reflections) use raytracing.
You have to read the descriptions for each individual entry.
Chances are you've enabled it without being aware of it.
thank youuu

PEBCAK

when your fps drops is your gpu at 100% load ?
game is heavy on the gpu. light on the cpu
even at a low resolution (1080p) the cpu barely gets 40% use (5800x)

the game is amd sponsored. hence fsr3 and its attempt at frame generation is front and center and nvidia just gets dlss with no fg or reflex boost

on my 5800x and 4070 i get about 80fps average at 1440p dlss quality, ultra settings.

Sounds like game favors AMD.
i fixed it i think. i wasnt aware that restarting applies the graphics settings. So i was never really seeing much of an improvement when adjusting and kept reverting it back to default and trying new settings. I copied one of the graphics settings of the video linked above, DLSS QUALITY frame gen off and rtx on. then i restarted the game and now im getting 75-100+ fps

Native, at 1440p
youll most likely have to play with dlss, most games expect you to now these days.

I know the invention of DLSS made developers more lazy. The point of DLSS was a tool to make older hardware still perform on Newer games, but instead developers just think its an optimisation tool. "Oh our game performs like absolute garbage just cram DLSS in there and say the games truly next gen because it brings an RTX 4090 to its knees" *Alan Wake 2 devs*
The rec specs are with quality fsr in mind, not even ultra quality. Quality 1080p is 720p basically, just looks better with potential ghosting artifacts or blurrier with movement.
And for 1080p 60fps with high settings.
So basically 1080p 30fps with high settings without scaler tech is rec specs.

Really dislike that many newer games now list game specs using fsr.

The game has hidden raytracing and the rtx 3080 is not the best card for this in 2024. I think medium settings for low raytracing in reflections, shadows and lighting is the gamechanger for your gpu. And also Fsr3 Framegeneration is a must have.

DLSS/FSR just lowers the resolution and then scales it back up, but looks maybe as good as native, better though than just downscaling or using lower res, while gaining the same performance gains.

Also you have to realize optimisation means just lower graphics settings or resolution. You can't optimize assets to be less performance heavy you can just make them smaller or bigger. You can though optimize graphics settings, aka hundreds or thousands of them, just to get it right for different presets. Many games could go even much further with graphics settings, and I've been doing that with Palworld, Gotham Knights, Alters, Hogwarts Legacy, Lords of the Fallen, using virtual shadows in unreal engine 5 games, enabling lumen transparency reflections, or with unreal engine 4 games tweak the raytracing options, with Alters it's even possible to use Lumen Hardware Raytracing, they enabled it in the project settings, but ironically disabled lumen global illumination, it ain't even using screenspace global illumination, just only screenspace reflections.

It's not hidden. You can read the description in game too.

"Specular Reflections This setting controls the quality of ray-traced specular reflections. By default, available options are: Very Low, Low, Medium, High, Very High

Diffuse Reflections This setting controls the quality of ray-traced diffuse reflections. By default, available options are: Low, Medium, High

BVH Quality This setting affects which Level of Detail is used for objects added to the Raytracing World. This will affect the quality of ray traced reflections. Available options are: Low, High
"

Also you would have to lower everything pretty much for basically neglible fps gains.
Resolution is the only thing that matters, though if you use the usemaxsettings command, going above that will though give a huge peformance hit.

thank you for actually giving us an update, a lot of people don't do that. as someone with the same specs as you I am going to get the game now that I know it'll run well!

you're welcome, the only issue im seeing is venturing in the open world occasionally ill get a stutter or two but thats sometimes followed buy 3 loading or saving dots in the bottom left so it could having a little hiccup when its loading a new region or saving, but as of yet its not happened in a vital situation so its not hindered me
