The gameplay is pretty similar to Far Cry so... it depends.
On the one hand I do like the older Far Cry games, on the other hand... I like the *Far cry games* this just kinda feels like a cheap reskin in some areas. The graphics are nice! But you can tell it's a ubisoft game with the same Jank all their games seem to have....

The story was also fairly boring but that's subjective. Well.. it's all subjective I suppose but you get what I mean. Found it to be "Meh"

Well, well, well. We actually agree on some points, who would've thought. :steamhappy:

Checked the preview and it was okay. But if I'm gonna play this I'd just jump back to Far Cry. While outdated, I'd rather play the original one, Avatar: The Game. At least I could pick which side I wanted to play as.

It was alright

its typical ubisoft open world type game like far cry (which i like a lot) with an avatar skin slapped on it

not overly fond of avatar itself, but the graphics are amazing and i find the gameplay loop relaxing

I haven't played it enough to say good or bad things yet but I like the detailed menus and graphics settings, it's nice to see a proper PC port for a change.

I was also worried about the forced ray tracing but it seems to run great, getting 112fps average in the benchmark on Ultra.

I only played for 1 hour so far, I'm not frustrated yet but we'll see...

Played over 150 hours.

For me the game is not the second coming but beautiful, competent, good and bad but no worse then many other games out there. I clearly do not regret buying it.

Is the base game worth $70? TBH I think no. But at the same time I really think the development team tried to recreate a extremely beautiful world that I love to explore.

So do not expect BG3 or Elden Ring, but more of a run-of-the-mill competent yet basic game-play set in an interesting open-world.

And UbiSoft never really promised anything beyond that.

Much of the anti-climatic hype floating around was generated by players in their minds.

It's not that it was generated in our minds it's that Ubisoft has an extremely bad reputation for doing a lot of bad things in their games.

So far I'm liking the game though, we'll see if that sticks...

Plenty of game publishers have pretty bad history. UboSoft is not the only one.

Seems it is more of 'the favor of the month' for those who just like to stir things up. Pick on something and blow it totally out of proportion, to seem relevant and cool.

Which publisher will it be next?

Most people relate it to FarCry, other than being open world and made by Ubisoft, I don't think its much like FarCry. Its more like Horizon Zero Dawn to me. You could even argue it's like Red Dead Redemption. Open world, crafting, hunting, collection, poi discovery, etc. Basically has all the same things as any other open world FPS. FarCry has an enemy patrol or base every 5 feet and when you come back to the same area they have all re-spawned and built new trucks again... This doesn't have the constant enemy attacking, and if you take out a base/outpost/drilling/mining station it gets over grown with vegetation slowly. Also the map is huge and while it has fast travel it comes with a minor penalty to use it. I feel they did a really good job world building and bringing the movie themes and concepts to a game. I also don't feel that the game deserves all the hate it gets. It's really not a bad game. I do understand the contempt for UbiSoft though, so it's a tough call. In my mind buying it on Steam on a 40% sale gets you the game and gives UbiSoft the least amount of $ as Steam takes 30% of that discounted price. So UbiSoft gets the least amount of money. Far less than if you paid full, or bought it on Epic or Ubi's own store.

All that to say that I have about 8hrs in the game and I am liking it. For me the game looks and runs great. I like that it is an FPS rather than 3rd person. The gameplay loop is enjoyable for me, and I am a fan of the movies. So for me it's a win. But to each their own, so your mileage may vary.

Fun, but repetitive like Far cry.
Dwayne Jun 21, 2024 @ 9:26am
The game is boring and bland. More boring and bland than the latest far cry games.

I took a ubi+ sub a couple of months ago, played a couple of hours of avatar and AC mirage.
Mirage was painful and bad.
Avatar has nice graphics, which kept me playing for just a couple of hours.
Then I quickly cancelled my ubi+ sub.

Let's just say it will take a tremendous effort from ubisoft to ever see any cent from me ever again.

I love it! I'm playing it a ridiculous amount. It's been a while since a game grabbed me this strongly.
