Salt and Sanctuary

View Stats:
Forgotten King trio = Best Salt Farm
Extra Update: Be aware that you will be denying yourself access to the ONLY OTHER Twisted Heart material upgrade available per run UNTIL you beat all three Forgotten gods for real, it can be found shortly after them. This only applies to Enhanced Mode runs, in regular mode there's likely still just one heart, on the right side of Cran's Pass.

Update: I just realized that the Russet (Potato) Mask gives a + salt % buff, but it does NOT stack with the Grasping Ring buff, so you can choose between one of the two. The giant anchor and saltreaver weapons' salt buffs are both new to Enhanced mode. The Grasping Ring, Russet Mask and Stone Leader salt buffs are not new.

~~~~~~
Once you get good enough to quickly kill 2 out of 3 of these dead gods and teleport back out with a bell, it's easily the best salt farm in the game, by far.
Memorize the tricky jumps down to their lair, keep in mind two of them will give unavoidable fall damage.
Wipe out the Forgotten Judge first with slash + arcane damage, their holy spam attack is the most dangerous anyway.
Then pick either the Forgotten King or Forgotten Knight, take them out with strike + fire damage. Watch out for the King's obnoxious foot-to-the-face attack, it's decently quick.
Then teleport out before killing the third, and all three will respawn for another round. You can actually abuse farming The Architect & The Unskinned the same way, but killing one of them gives less salt than killing two of these other guys. Besides, they're also a more dangerous boss fight.
FIght with the Saltreaver reaper and/or the Castaway's Greatadze greataxe, both have +salt buff effect on last hit kills in Enhanced mode. Also wear a Grasping ring (OR the Russet Mask, these two don't stack), and have one of your creed's stone leaders at the Crypt of Dead Gods sanctuary.
Farming 2 out of 3 of the Forgotten Trio on NG+ with these three +salt buffs grants
246,840 salt per run. On NG+2 it's 330,752 salt!
~~~~~~

For extra gold, you also use these items: wearing the Merchant's Fez (or the Mask of Splendor or the Resplendent Armet) OR the Ring of Splendor. The helms and rings do not stack, just like with the +salt ones. Also having one of your creed's stone merchants at the Crypt of Dead Gods sanctuary.

You will earn at LEAST ~41,000 gold per run
(if you make sure to pick it all up from each kill).

You could boost that gold higher if you wield the axe of splendor, but then you'll lose out on the extra salt from the other weapons, which is the best part of this farm. Either way, you need to get the LAST hit in with the weapon to get the bonus. You can use a preferred weapon for most of the fight, if you're careful to swap for the final blow.

You do NOT need the Ring of Splendor, that only increases the 'gold find' rate from regular mobs, makes zero difference on the guaranteed gold drop from bosses.
Never mind, it just has the same 'no stacking with helm buff' rule as the Russet Mask and Grasping Ring. I haven't tested whether House of Splendor's Goldenwine stacks with the helms/ring or not.

Another way to farm salt is by killing a crypt keeper in Mal's Floating Castle. Set a merchant in a sanctuary, buy as many bells as you afford, kill the keeper, teleport back to the sanctuary, kill again. Gold drop is big enough to have enough bells to go on, as well as occasional salt cases (check merchant's stock). This way brings five to fifteen thousand salt per minute depending on a build.

That farm is better if you need King's Orders &/or Shimmering Pearl drops too, they're both useful end-game materials. One is the final upgrade mat for the majority of armor, and the other is the transmutation mat needed to create most boss weapons.

Forgotten Trio farm is better if you want/need a bunch of extra gold, though. Crypt Keepers do drop a decent amount, but unlike bosses, they aren't 100% guaranteed to drop any. Same with almost all other non-boss mobs.

If you want to farm crypt keepers for orders/pearls, the Crypt is a faster, if later, spot than the Castle; there's one directly below the shrine. Tag the shrine, drop down, kill, loot, bell, repeat.

I might check out this dead god farm for my next run. Gotta satisfy my need for sprawling builds capable of using everything.

Actually yeah, if you do the double jump to the left of that shrine when you drop down, you are still going to get fall damage, but you'll be safely out of aggro range of the Crypt Keeper. If you're willing to take fall damage and resort to using a bell every time (the shrine is much longer to go back to on foot), then it's quicker than farming the Crypt Keeper at Mal's.

On top of being the best combo farm for salt & gold, Forgotten Gods trio is also good for practicing your dodging and/or blocking skills without being totally screwed if you mess up. Since you have to juggle three enemies at once, and they are still dangerous compared to regular mobs... just not compared to most other bosses.

Besides maxing out ammo & consumables, or stocking up on crates of salt, I think the most useful thing to spend gold on late game is extra mats that creeds sell at higher devotion levels. Several of them specialize in selling different transmute or upgrade mats. Minty Skell also sells the Charred & Frozen rank 3 mats.

If you care about just gold and not salt, there's another probably even better run spamming the Rotten Raiders' death animation glitch, especially the pack outside the Ziggurat of Dust. I made a separate post about that one.
