There is the godless creed (The Iron Ones) best for pure melee users. The general creed (The Three) which is a generic creed that fits a lot of builds and is good early game but lacks anything unique. And the Holy Creed (Devara's Light) good for clerics, paladins or any build that wants to use support/holy prayers.

Later on in your travels through the game, you'll come across a handful of other creeds, some hidden.

some creeds give special items for rewards on the leader npc, and even extra items on merchants depending on your devotion, so yeah, creed is very important if you want a expefic build for your character.

here some information that you can find at the moment: http://saltandsanctuary.wiki.fextralife.com/Creeds

How does the leader turn in items work? I just pop a leader at any sanctuary and turn in?

The monster drops seems to be inconsistent. I dont have any or met any of the stuff Im forced to turn in ( 4-5 items )

The drops can be a bit grindy, in a secret area you find the "Kismet Stone" a ring to help increase drop rates. I was able to max out devotion in an hour or so using that ring (though I pretty much had free travel to anywhere at that point).

Im not sure where the stuff drops either. Not sure if I want to use the wiki to find it.

It mentions sorcerers tho, doubt I have access to those. Does it change from sanctuaries?

No, every leader offers the same devotion rank up options. It goes from top to bottom on the list, the top ones being earlier in the game, with them getting further and further a long the lower down on the list.

Check your bestiary from your equip screen (the monster list next to your inventory) then for instance if it says "Rotten Walkers Ear" as the work order, try to find rotten walker on the list, if you can't, you haven't come across that enemy yet. The list also keeps track of what monsters drop what, but only if you've had them drop the item before and only if you've defeated that monster before will it show up on the list.
