Take the ring or the idol. Idol is good for transmuting a good weapon early. Ring is good for salt. Both can be found later in the game. I would lean on the idol, you only need one ring, but it does not hurt to have extra idols.

I went on a hunch and chose the ring. No regrets

The item that gives your weapon holy damage is useful if you're trying to kill the tutorial boss, but otherwise found plentifully (especially if a follower of Devera)
