magic spells
I am on my first pllaythrough, and my mage seems to randomly be adding new spells to her inventory. does she add them based on number of sanctuarys found? i have not changed my religion yet and i know changing that will add more, but she is stilll randomly adding spells to her wares. i dont want to change religion until i have all of the ones from my current religion. (its the one with the white potion bottle for the alttars)

anyone know what makes her decide to add new spells?

probably because you are picking it while playing.... The spells and incantions are normal item on the world just like sword and armors.

NPCs' inventories expand with your devotion level. You must have been turning in monster parts with a sanctuary leader.

So i take it the devotion level is what you raise buy giving the leader the monster parts? I thought of this so i tested it out. I checked and my mage had 0 spells for sale, then i raised my devotion by like 5. still after that she still had 0 spellls for sale.

I thought "ok i just need to give her a chance to restock" so i teleported, fought some enemys, leveled up, then restarted. and nothing was added to her spells (also id like to point out that at this point she added spells to her stock one time. So i bought the initial spells, somewhere along the line she got new inventory, i bought those, then i did this test.)

I then said "♥♥♥♥ it, the spells i have will be good enough" and continued on. then after some leveling, killed some bosses, added some new sanctuarys, and placed some more stone mages or w/e they are called, she updated her stock.

I know changing creeds would change the mage stock, but i want to get everything from the mage i currently have before i change my creed. What exactly could i do as the player besides changing creed to make her update her supply? I have almost maximum devotion as far as the leader is concerned. I think i have to wait until i kill a boss to get the last part.

Thank you for the replies so far!!!

also i had my mage for devaras light sell some spells that are not listed in her spell list in the wiki. so the list on the wiki is not updated, which also is the reason why i am asking here how to MAKE SURE i get every spell from her before i change devotion

you will get everything for free. Every spell on the game but dragonfire you can get playing and yeah for some reason the mage npc sells incantations that he should not have access.

ok il probably change creeds to get the magic damage up potion soon as i can then. I just wish i understood what i am doing specifically that made the mage woman add new spells to her list. But if they are all drops except one il feel better about changing. i just didnt want to screw myself later on and have to redo everything for this religion

It really only depends on your creed level but there are a few things to consider:

- Not every vendor unlocks something new at every level.
- Most of their inventory is already unlocked at the lower levels.
- Spells you have already found while exploring are no longer sold.

what increases my creed level besides giving items to the leader? there was one case where my leader was fully upgraded, i leveled up, killed some enemies, reset my game, and 0 items for sale in the spells section. then i played the game for a few hours without upgrading my creed rank, killed a couple bosses, added s couple sanctuarys, added like 2 stone mages, and then they had 2 new spells under the spells section. spells that are not listed on my creeds mage spell list on the wiki also. for example, i bought fireball and lightningball from the devras light mage

id like to point out that im not trying to argue, i just want to understand what is happening. i appreciate the help. it seems like there is a lot of unknown things going on in this game. partially because the wiki is missing a ton of information

There is no other way to raise devotion. The only thing I can imagine that explains what you're describing, is that the first time you checked under spells, then later checked under Incantations, or the other way around. Also, the wiki is by no means complete, so that's not too surprising.

Also not trying to argue of course, but I played through the game like 30 times and I never noticed any vendor just randomly add to their stock...
Dixon Sider Feb 24, 2018 @ 1:34pm
ya i dont know what i did that had her add to her stock, but i know 100% that what i mentioned above happened. I buy all incantations and spells as soon as they appear. there is something besides creed level that is telling the mage to update her spells. It could be checkpoints in the story, it could be number of stone mages used, number of bosses killed, number of sanctuarys discovered, i dont know what it is but she updated her inventory with new spells without me increasing my rank in creed.

This is not the only thing that is specific to only me apparently. I also have a glitch where i can not use my swap weapon button to change from my staff to anything else. every other wepon swaps in and out fine, but if i want to change from my staff to my axe, i have to light a torch. That is the only way other than unequipping my staff to swap weapons.

Maybe my mage updating her magic list is a glitch with my game, but i find that hard to believe. none of these things are game breaking to me, i still love the hell out of the game. But its my engineering nature that i have to understand everything on a very deep mechanical level.

This wasnt the goal when i first made this post. I just wanted to know when i could switch creeds without taking any steps backwards in my magic spellbook progression. But now i want to figure out what triggers the updating spell list

Could someone eventually get off their hands and actually post an explanation of elemental imbalance in the official wiki? It's so lazy. You'd think such a core concept would actually be addressed somewhere but you'd think wrong.

look that guide above. I tried to explain, it's not that hard, if you keep using too much fire or lightning spells the bar on the top of the screen will fill and after that every spell of the same element will damage you. Basically don't spam the same spell over and over use a counterpart of it from the opposite element. Blood magic don't occur element imbalance BUT everytime it casted you will get a debuff of -50 in ALL RESISTANCES. It will not show up on the resistances tab though.
