Using a good tower shield (preferably Iron Rampart, Type 46 otherwise is fine) you can block most of his attacks, except his charge grapple, in which you should roll. Takes a while to kill, but it's fine.
Also, very important tip: avoid using sword (slash) against him, use a hammer (strike) if possible, as he has some resistance against slash and no resistance against strike. Would certainly make things quickier, if you can wield them. If you can't use them, maybe try to get a Shrouded Bulwark/Chitin Obelisk greatsword (37.5% Slash / 62.5% Strike damage, against the usual 75% Slash / 25% Strike of standard Greatswords) to cover that?
Otherwise, I'd suggest removing your armor, and test your character movement, you'll notice your Roll ability will get you much farther and faster, so it's easier to dodge attacks. If you keep your weight below 25% of your total weight, you'll be as fast as totally naked.
Also, the good weapons are crafted on the Transmute NPC, but each requires different components to create, mainly drops from bosses.
Scharfrichter is the best "overall greatsword", I use it along with a Iron Rampart on one slot, and a Trinity Scepter on the other, but of course I was only able to do that on NG+.
Basically, melee builds often require a strike damage weapon and a slash damage weapon to be effective all the time, as there're enemies and bosses that are more vulnerable to one kind of damage than another.
Then again, maybe you can skip the swords I suggested, as they are 'expensive' to make, and are only temporary solutions.
Of course I only learned about those things by reading the wiki, as the game doesn't tell sh1t!
Also a correction, neither are titan armor or golem armor the "strongest" heavy armor in-game! I'm using Umbral Set, but only started using it in NG+, before that I used some + stat items (blacksmith gloves, the crown that gives damage) instead and other lightier armor to keep below 25% max weight.
And of course, remember to upgrade the items as high as you can on a blacksmith.
The Palatine armor set has been chosen due to its weight: I wanted to wear some armor, but it shouldn't be too heavy.
Btw, what type of damage does the Kureimoa have? I used it because it has been my favourite Greatsword through all the game except the Jaws of death, and I didn't know if it was suitable for this boss (but he certainly CAN be killed by this weapon anyway).
In my first playthrough (not the NG+) I used the Gangplank mantlet shield (it's a class 1 tower shield, weight 22), but I forgot how exactly did I defeat the Nameless god in the first time, so I don't know if this shield can be useful.
