Poison dex build going Magic/dex/poison hybrid. And some questions.

Hello everyone,

I've a lvl 140 hunter at NG+ wich has a dex/poison build, but I'm going to spice up my game by adding magic into it. Thing is, I don't really know where to start. I want to make my character a way, that it has 2 weapon sets. A poison/dex weapon set using the pessklaw and culverin/arquebus with poison bullets. And the magic set, using a magic scaling weapon and maybe a wand.
I've done some research on the weapon that scale with magic and I've came up a top five weapons.

1. Phoenix tail (I already got whip skill 5 but low str/magic)
2. Branding Iron (I like the extra blunt, fire dmg and sword moveset)
3. Northern Cross (It's a greatscissor, nuff said, but also requires str investment.)
4. Black widow/Shikeimaru (tied because I don't know how good arcane is.)
5. Aster Monolith (I've used it yea.... The weapon speed was a let-down.)

I didn't bother the Stardust Spire since I'm not that into spears, except the adder fang because of the poison.
The reason I put the greatswords in the list is because I don't mind using 2h weapons. I like the incantation spells.

TL;DR
I just wanna know how to make an effective magic/poison/dex build with the various weapons presented. Spells that need to use a wand/staff aren't that important in my opinion. Incantation spells are.

Hm.

Phoenix Tail in conjunction with Maru/Widow is where you want to be for a dex Poison/Arcane build.

I don't think anything is resistant to particularly arcane. The entire red hall of cages is resistant to fire, among others here and there. However, the branding iron does noticeably more damage than shikeimaru. On the other hand, it also weighs twice as much.

Northern cross doesn't require strength. It will kick ass with just magic. Same as branding iron/shikeimaru with little dex. Though I suppose you already have dex, which augers for shikeimaru or phoenix tail.

Hey guys, thanks for answering. I might indeed go with the maru or phoenix tail since fire and arcane seems to be good against bosses. I still wanna use the pessklaw and a gun with poison bullets (needs some farming for maxing arqebues). after that I can switch out to the damage dealing set.

Lightning storm takes damage scaling from your equipped want/staff. As far as I can tell, that's the only incantation that does.

Good to know, thanks! I'm using lightning pod and some other summon-ish spells to help me out. Do you have some experience with Static Geist?

I'm not sure lightning pod even scales with the magic stat. I think static geist does, but it definitely doesn't scale with your staff.

That's ok though. Those spells are quite handy already. I think I'm gonna go with Pessklaw/Arquebus and Phoenix tail/wand or shield. The rest with Incantation spells I suppose.
If I had some prayers with me I could call this build: "The witch docter"?

I like to get prayer 1 and use sacred linens, which frees up the bandage ring slot. So basically I like starting as a cleric. Otherwise it's a good idea to grey pearl out of all the wisdom leading up to prayer 1. If you like the wisdom points, go over and get prayer 2 as well.

The bandage ring ain't that usefull anymore on NG+. I guess if I got some levels to spare I get some prayers.

Magic geist doesn't respect the storm ring damage bonus, neither does flame orbiters or wildfire, nor do they care if you have a wand/staff equipped.
The summons do care about the storm ring.
Lightning storm cares about both storm ring and wand/staff. Dark swarm isn't supposed to be affected by storm ring and isn't, but does care about wand/staff.
