So how does the Lantern Charm work?

So I have the lantern charm equiped... but it doesnt seem to do anything?

Is it an early game troll? Or am I missing something here?

Is it active slot? Charms works only with active slots

No clue, I'm completely new to the game and just figuring things out. I have it equipped in the Charm slot in the screenshot.

Press LB to change to the loadout with the charm.

its not really a good light source tho, a lantern or light spell would be better to use

Light spell is a waste of Focus. Better to stick with torches until you can find the Light Ring in Hagar's Cavern.
