WHERE TO FIND WATER ON SCORCHED ENCLAVE (First Map) and the Whiners
Go to Scorched Enclave (literally the first map), start at cemetery. As you see the base around the right corner, run down the middle with the little hump hill in the middle that then T's off into a trench line. In the trench, turn left. There's a bunker straight ahead up the hill a bit with a keypad door. Input the garbled symbols you see on the screen to unlock the door. There's ALWAYS 5-6 water barrels in there, and usually weapon mods and/or a yellow DeWalt lockbox you can sell to vendors.

Time mechanics are lame in a PvE game, I will admit, but it's literally 6 hours in and people are crying like little babies. I somewhat agree with the argument against it, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ are the people so unlikable, insufferable, and downright bad at the game. It's honestly pathetic how people conduct themselves like entitled brats. If you were my customer I'd fire you. The adage, "The customer is always right" is so easy to ignore here because the customer is akin to a spoiled child. It's literally giving me a headache reading some of these posts. I'm trying to look up where to DROP OFF my water because I have so much, and the Discussions are flooded with the most pathetic excuse for presumably men I've rarely ever encountered. I've died a handful of times, either from bad luck or a bad move I made. It's really not that hard to find water and bring it back to base.

If you can't even find loot in the first map which is 3,000 sqft., why would they care if it gets wiped? Just get a refund already. This clearly isn't for you. You like the hardcore post-apocalyptic aesthetic, but you don't like the consequences of being placed in that world. The entire world is on fire. You aren't the hero here. This game is not for you. Learn to explore without getting mauled by cyborg zombies, or simply get a refund. Actually, or you can conduct yourselves as adults. I'd have a little more respect for these posts if they argued for maybe only reducing water while you're online, in a civil manner. I can get behind that, but ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ are the people posting in defense of even this total whiners. I almost want it to stay as a mechanic because of how loathsome the general attitude is here, despite myself being very favorable to the idea of the 'timer' only ticking for water when online. I have never said this and meant it before, but truly I say to you, TOUCH. GRASS.

I get that you’ve figured out a route for collecting water and have an abundance, but the issue isn’t about how easy it is for you to gather resources. The problem is that a time-based mechanic like this in a PvE game forces players into unnecessary busywork, turning it from an engaging experience into a chore. Sure, it only takes a few minutes to grab water, but that adds up when it's an ongoing task that interrupts the flow of the game.

Time mechanics like this penalize players for simply stepping away, whether for real-life reasons or just wanting to take a break. That’s fine for hardcore survival games, but when the game is PvE / single player focused, it feels punishing for no real reason. People should be able to pick up the game and enjoy it without feeling pressured to log in just to prevent losing progress.

And while some people might struggle to find water initially, the bigger point is that players shouldn't be locked into a mechanic that demands constant attention. It’s not about being entitled or bad at the game, but rather about having the flexibility to enjoy the experience without being tethered to time-based upkeep.

In the end, removing or adjusting the water mechanic wouldn’t harm players who enjoy it, but it would make the game more accessible and enjoyable for those who don’t want to spend their time doing maintenance tasks. Games should be about fun, not micromanaging survival bars, especially when the core experience is PvE.

Grinding in every video game ever is a chore also one we choose to do. Change my mind!

If people used the entire "The customer is always right" adage, more people would know its actually "The customer is always right in matters of taste." Doesnt mean always right, but just their own damn opinion cause everyones tastes are different and individual.

When you grind, you’re usually working toward something rewarding or fun, like new gear, story content, abilities, etc. But with the water mechanic, it’s not about reward; it’s about constantly doing a task just to stay afloat.

It's funny people are upset with an Early Access game and one DESIGNED to be hard. I basically failed the first mission 6-7 times. Some because I was dumb, some due to luck, some due to glitches. Pretty easy to chill out over it though.

I don’t think people are upset with the game being difficult, and most of us understand what comes with Early Access. The real issue isn’t about facing challenges in the game itself—difficulty is part of what makes these kinds of games rewarding. The frustration stems from a mechanic that doesn’t add to the challenge in a meaningful way.

As a dirty loot goblin this game is like crack cocaine to me. Doing some basic grinding for water is nothing compared to all the wasted hours I've done grinding in old school jrpgs.

Just think of all the wasted hours people put into shiny hunting in pokemon vs doing a few runs every few days, hell you start with a water tank that can hold 55 days worth.

Unless you're going on a holiday, in for surgery or going to jail it's not that bad ONLY IF you have the grinding mindset. If you don't have that mindset, then yes I can fully see why this would drive people crazy.

sounds fun to me. go play something else if it is not fun for you.

Not every game is for you. accept that reality and your life will be much more fun.

Like I said, if it were changed to a timer while you're online *only*, I'd be happy with it. It's just the incessant whining. The entire Discussions is filled with it, drowning out actual gameplay conversation. I've seen this getting worse as years go by. It's one thing if players want to get vocal about features they'd like or not like in the game, but it's the way they're going about it. I feel like I'm reading threads as if 5 year olds could type coherent English to whine.

I'm all for constructive dialogue over a timer that only exists while playing, that's calibrated to game time so it's still a feature that makes the player focus on obtaining water. I think that would be cool. Or even hearing from people who want it removed altogether. Thanks for your patience.

I like the difficulty. The reaction to it by people reminds me a lot of Elden Ring and its DLC. The first week everyone complains, the 2nd week everyone calls it a masterpiece. This game isn't there (yet), but I think the vast majority will come to love it, especially as it's polished. There's definitely A LOT of work left to do, but the foundation here is amazing. Nothing like it.

Fair. I think a game-time one would make sense. But instead of say, 1 barrel = 1 day, maybe make 1 barrel = 6 to 8 hours of game time. That way it's still on the player's mind, and rather than focusing gun customization, they're more encouraged to focus on teching up to the rigs that let you carry multiple large items so they can get multiple barrels per run. In one run if you know where the water is, you can pretty much call it a night and then do other missions for fun.

Idk, I feel bad for people who just want/have to play when they rarely have free time though. I like the mechanic but it's hard to balance for every player. Removing it outright would ruin the fun. This game isn't meant to be easy, but penalizing people for having a life outside of gaming is a little too hardcore. Even for those who like it like myself, we'll all inevitably have stuff come up or play something else, set a calendar reminder, forget, and then once our progress is ALL GONE, we won't want to come back. Even for those who like it, this will be the reality for many.

Be careful with this strat. The bunker has water in it every time, yes. The UI can absolutely bug out though and can render you unable to do anything with the interact button, because the hacking overlay just never goes away.
