Usually it's online multiplayer that gets updated.
It is safe to say that if there's no local multiplayer by now—there will never be any.
Stars can be awarded specifically based on the sole victor, so you won't get a ridiculous amount of earnings from having 4 players all at once. Yeah it's exploitable, but nowhere near as exploitable as having all 4 players be awarded stars as if it were an online match.
As far as hiding cards goes, it can be as straightforward as not displaying the card faces unless it's that player's turn to do something. Hotseat multiplayer does this a fair amount in order to hide what each player is doing strategically; all they must do is confirm that they're at the machine. It may get a little clunky during battles but it's workable. The most that can be done at that point is have players with the trust in one another to not peek.
But an actual hotseat type mode would be kinda hard since any player might need to take action during anyone else's turn, but even without battles, you'd still want to see what's happening at any given moment. Hiding cards just won't ever be possible on a single, shared screen.
Better to bring back an old thread with several supporters than start yet another new one.
