Modding Help: Repacking pak files
Okay, so I'm not sure if this is exactly the best place to ask this but when making texture mods for characters, does anyone know how exactly are you supposed to repackage the pak files so that the mods can work in-game?

Everything I've tried doing to repackage them either doesn't work or results in the characters im trying to mod the textures for ending up invisible, and just leaving the unpackaged folder in the data folder doesn't work either for those saying that it doesn't need to be repacked. And everything I've tried looking online for to try and repack it is only meant to be used exclusively with another game. (As in using the paks from this game on it won't work)

Am I doing something wrong or is there another way to get character texture mods to work?

EDIT: I seemed to have finally figured out what's causing the issue and now the mods are working so...case solved I guess.

Use a rar archiver such as 7zip to repack the contents of your folder as a rar, then manually change the file extension to pak. As long as you've made your mod correctly, this should be all you need to do to make it work.

Hm, well i've heard it only works with repacking it as a ZIP but I suppose if RAR's the actual way to go here...

That's because that's my bad, I actually mean zip but as long as you don't mess with the encryption of the archive, it should be okay. You can check what it's meant to be by looking at one of the game's default pak files.

Yeah..kinda found that part out just now. Though I did finally figure out what I was doing wrong with it and it seems to be working now so..thanks.

You can't just tell us that you found a fix, and not explain it! Some of us are running into the same problem, and could use the help.

My apologies. iirc, the problem i was having is that i actually just simply forgot to enable the ability to change file extensions on my PC. (Im not sure why it was disabled in the first place, probably just a default thing) So even though the files were called .paks in NAME, they weren't actually .pak files, and as a result the mods didn't work.

It's actually surprisingly easy to enable it if you know what to do: https://helpdesk.flexradio.com/hc/en-us/articles/204676189-How-to-change-a-File-Extension-in-Windows

So yeah, nothing too drastic, just remember to turn on the ability to change file extensions before you go about modding.
