How long does an online game take?
I have had my eye on this game for a long time. It has a good sale now, but the sale ends in a few hours. I would love to play this game online vs. real players, once I've played the single player campaign and learned how to play. However, I'm worried that a game takes a long time, like a couple hours. I often don't have long stretches of time to devote to an online game.

So, how long on average does it take to play a multiplayer game, please?

Also, are the games played online in real time, or is there an asynchronous option.

I think they take average 25-35 minutes, sort of.

Excellent! Thank you both. I can't wait to get home from work and start learning how to play.

And, thank you for the kind welcome, Grynn. A good community like this is a great thing!

I’d personally put it at about 10 minutes assuming someone has a flawless victory, 45 minutes assuming the game is trolling everyone as hard as possible, but most times, it would last about 20-30 minutes.

I think my online games tend to average around 20-30 minutes, but unusually quick or unusually long games can occur too. (Longer games are more common when hunting for achievements or trying to complete certain challenges.)

Refer to this informative chart:
No Talk + 4 Speed =15 minutes
No Talk + 3 Speed = 30 minutes
Little Talk = +5 Minutes
Tons of Talk = + 15 Minutes
Minimal AFK = + 5 Minutes
High AFK = 30 Minutes
AFK Party = +45 Minutes
Trolls = +20 Minutes
Just a bad game overall = +15 Minutes
That one player who waits for the time to go 1 before rolling = +15 minutes
Brb gotta get my pizza delivery hehehehehe = +5 minutes
Playing Handicaps = +5 Minutes
Everyone is playing Handicaps = +10 Minutes
You played campaign = Easy 10 Minute Game which awards good stars

People are awful at actually doing their turns quickly, so ideally matches would take 15 minutes at most, but thanks to that they're actually 20 or even 30 minutes long.

Great information! Thank you so much, everyone.

Just curious - how can people troll in this game?

Any game with an in-game chat feature sets the stage for trolling, but fortunately you can hide the chat box with a click. Other trolling methods in online, public lobbies include taking an overly long time to take turns (abusable since each player turn is allotted 60 seconds, whereas the average, non-battle turn should take about 5 seconds on speed setting 4, the max setting), frequently go afk (fortunately 3 turns afk in one match gets you an auto-kick to main menu), or spamming certain characters for no other reason than to fool around and detract from others' play experience, but this last one is harder to prove its intentional trolling.

The most common form is time wasting.

You have a maximum time of 60sec. to end your turn (outside of battles), if you take any longer the CPU will take over and finish your turn for you. If you haven’t made any move yourself after 3 turns you’ll automatically be booted from the match.
Some people intentionally take 55sec. every turn, preventing them from being auto-kicked and leading to aggravation from the other players.

Thankfully people like that are kinda rare. OJ is a pretty happy and fun community and people like that don’t last long, but there are some that take this game a little too seriously and don’t like it if they lose.
Not only that but I find hosts tend to kick people like this (if the troll isn't the host itself)
