The Sinking City 2

The Sinking City 2

Survival horror or detective game like Sinking City 1?
I played and really liked Sinking City, but it is a horror version of Sherlock Holmes, with mysteries and long investigation cases and little combat with monsters. In this sequel, will we have something like that or will it be more survival horror like Silent Hill and Resident Evil?

That's exactly what we are going to do. While combat will play a bigger role than in the first game, TSC2 is not a fast-paced action game and we aren't going to force you to fight swarms of enemies every minute.

Investigation will remain a relevant mechanic too, but we are focusing less on how you obtain your evidence and more on what you do with it and how it helps you.

So, less routine collection of evidence, more piecing it together and getting real gameplay benefits.

It's a survival horror game. It might still have investigation mechanic but at it's core it's not a detective game like the first one.

Everything we've seen/ they said shows it's more like a lovecraftian resident evil.

Unfortunately, from all informations published it will be more action survival horror. Adventure and detective part will be very sidelined :(

I prefer Survival horror.

My hope is some of the Detective-ish elements still lurk in Sinking City 2 as well, it felt a bit like a Mass Effect 1/Witcher 1 in parts with talking with people and hunting down leads-- I don't really mind some hand-holding and simplicity to the investigation mechanics, but it was a nice pacing part in the package of Sinking City 1.

Now, if Sinking City 2 will be more a full-blown survival horror game, I hope they do then more liberally copy other aspects from titles like Resident Evil or Dead Space to make sure the pacing stays good, meaning level design and mission design and inventory management alongside combat and of course whatever puzzles and scripted sequences, are balanced well for the overall package.
Combat & inventory management was a bit simplistic and repetitive in Sinking City 1, on the level of Alan Wake 1 which is a bit too repetitive for the length of the game it was (Alan Wake 2 seems like it did better with combat & inventory stuff, but then has way too little combat for a survival horror gameplay experience with too much just walking in woods or through surreal walking simulator pieces or staring at a wall in the same cabin for minutes on end).

hope it's not the typical survival horror game like sooooo many games before. liked the detective style gameplay in the first one.

Or more akin to Eternal Darkness, which would be pretty cool if they use a similar sanity system. We'll have to see.

I hope they dont overdoe the action and focus a bit more on exploring/detective stuff (the first game was going at the right direction).
I am a bit older now and this action overkill every game seems to have these days isnt my taste anymore.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

So the game will have gameplay more focused on classic Survival Horror, still with investigation and puzzles in a more simplified way, will we have more combat, but paced like games like RE and Silent Hill?

And can you talk about whether the map will be as big and open as the one in the first game? Or will it be "open" but smaller and denser?

I feel like this game could involve both the detective gameplay from the first one and survival horror style combat and resource management. I hope it does.

rip, people who played the first game loved it for what it was - a detective game, now it will be another b-tier survial horror, bc you don't have the budget
