But you might want to do some research, because this game is nowhere near like Civilization or Beyond Earth. It's a tactical space game. You have one fleet, control that and fly around doing missions. It's quite a bit smaller then Civilization or XCOM games, but a small little gem in which you can sink some time. Even short periods, like only 10 minutes.
Also, the game has no MP functionality, so no community for that.
Also, the game has no modding functionality, so no mods.
Besides that, on a general note, you have strange perception of the AI in Civilization. For state of current computing and demands for short turn times, the AI in civilization is actually very good.

Yeah, but some players think that somehow magically having to do it yourself makes the game "deeper" or something.
Also, it might be a plausible option to consider if the weapons had different effects, which they often do in the more over-complicated strategy games.
It's actually relatively deep gameplay, it's just the surface UI is so easy to use that it makes it feel less complex than it actually is.
