Game won't start. Need ideas to make it work.

Try to start the game, a window opens up that is white and after about 5 secounds the window will shut down and game won't start. Tried to run as Admin, uninstalled/reinstalled, restarted PC.

Have been digging in this fourms, noticed people with this issue but work around. and my OS is Windowns 7. I run beyond earth with no issues at all.

Few things to try:
1) verify your game files
2) manually run as an administrator this file:
<SteamLibrary>\SteamApps\common\Sid Meier's Starships\_CommonRedist\OpenAL\2.0.7.0\oalinst.exe
3) add -novideo to the Steam startup properties
4) post your dxdiag using pastebin.org for further troubleshooting if that doesn't work.

You need to re-install OpenAl from the ..\steamapps\common\Sid Meier's Starships\_CommonRedist\OpenAL\2.0.7.0 subdirectory

Sadly didn't work for me.

but after digging around more it seems my graphic card drivers are out of date and I cannot update thanks to HP being a crappy company and not updating them and you cannot update on your own thanks to how they have it programed to block that for what ever reason..... Still just odd that C:BE will work but not this.

if u need driver updates. this is a free program that will basicly search and update them for you <3 but please becareful the system restore it makes is for good reason. as once and only once it has given me an incorrect one to were i had to restore to a past point.

hopefully that helps, and no i dont own the game yet i was looking thru here trying to help a friend get there game running x.x

Updated everything but the graphics card. lol, I really hate HP. they want to charge some dumb fee($100!) to help 'fix' the issue. Ya, so never buy a HP. I know I won't(this one was a gift)

Thank you! Running the OpenAL installer "oalinst" fixed the crash problem for Starships and Ace Patrol.

well sad that it didnt help you, and yeah they will charge u even just if ur asking how to insert ram lol. or if ur asking to make sure ur doing it right. many companys are like that.
but if the game isnt working do what my friend is wait for a patch x.x as hes tried all the various things found via the forums still not working lol.

ya. I'll be wait or guess I'll be playing in about a year from when I have a newer PC. Thanks for the help tho. getting the other drivers updated helped with other issues! woot! lol

:) glad to hear it! my friend showed me systemsuite i think its called via that site, it has a free version which can cleanup speedup and optimize your pc <3 which it is great. as ive bought a couple programs like it in the past, which this one thankfully does everything you need for free.

which im glad i was able to help ^w^ even if it didnt get the game working yet lol
