Map Zooming

I've had the map zoom in all the way a few times on me and it is pretty sucky when it happens.
I play on my laptop with the touch pad, no mouse.
I can not for the life of me get it to zoom back out from whatever highly unrepeatable touch effects makes it zoom in.

Does anyone know of a keyboard shortcut for map zooming, or can anyone explain the how to for a touch pad?

Note to developers... Ctrl +/- is the universally accepted zoom command

Whatever touchpad control is equivalent to the scroll wheel should handle the zoom. Last laptop I had, that was stroking up/down at the right-hand edge of the pad, but I know it varies.
