edit: Getting hit and killed by a monster didn't help. Fixed itself when I used one of those gel health things.
edit edit: This bug might be triggered by using the omnitool on the climber door before the animation for the first activation finishes. I've actually run into this bug earlier in the game with non-omitool objects but it was always corrected by approaching a new interactive object.
So yeah, I'm literally unable to progress. Terrible design flaw in an otherwise great game so far. They need to fix this ASAP.
Edit: For those of you who have this bug at this particular area of the game, I eventually fixed it by hooking up to the WAU/restoring my health like another commentor mentioned. The closest one AFAIK is located on the other side of the long trench that has the building with the computer notes about corrupted sea creatures and their populations. Just keep limping away from those little angler fish, and eventually you'll get to the other side. There is a building that has a health pod in it that you literally cannot miss.
EDIT: ok found a work around. From the main menu there is the load game option. From there I reloaded the autosave from the descent, and replayed the section, preventing the bug from happening at all, which allowed me to get into Tau.
