Please explain death mechanics (Request for _slight_ spoilers)
So I died first time, and Simon woke up at same place, with dizzy vision.
Then I read that after a few non-lethal knock-outs death leads to reload at checkpoint.

So does number of deaths affect story in any way?
Does it make sense story-wise or ending-wise to minimize number of failures?

Don't spoil too much please )

Deaths probably don't make any difference on the outcome of the story. Atleast they didn't in Amnesia.

Amnesia doesn't quite apply here because theme of death seems to be way more important in Soma's story

It doesn't.

Sadly no.

After reading practically every pre-launch article about Soma's death system there is I was kinda assuming that every death would have some sort of indirect penalty later down the line or that you'd become less of a human every time you respawned, but... alas.

Sort of disappointing imo, especially as soon as you get into the inevitable "Nothing can go wrong because I'm not limping yet" -mindset.

Thank you. I got same impression from those articles, that you would be corrupted.
Like harvesting little sisters in Bioshock etc.

There are many interesting ways to handle the death penalty, but unfortunately many people don't have the patience for permanent handicaps and would just quit the game.

About the only thing I'm aware of that would depend on not being hurt too much is that the use of Wau flowers (the things you touch to be healed) beyond the first one that you are required to interact with prevents you from seeing a secret code at the end of the game. That code is used to unpack the _supersecret.rar file in the Soma directory.

easy spolier>>>>

you are robot... as robot when you get dmg you get black out - as this first fall is sing of system corruption.
as you wake up, no knowing how much it taken, you need repair - that wau things provide it.
if you dont get and you get dmg you just stops workings... MEANS die.

lol people you really doesnt know to understand??? if you are under 12 years PLEASE dont play these games, AND LEARN ABOUT SCIFI AND EVERYTHING.

only after that you will understand how things are really.

That's just an assumption then.

While I like your idea, it's not confirmed in the official story.

I doubt memory gets damaged as the main characters shows non indications of it happening.

If we're talking about how the death mechanics work from a lore perspective, then in most cases we know that WAU isn't really trying to kill you. The things its corrupted have bad code, but it's ultimate goal is to preserve life. The one instance where you are caught according to the story, the monster sticks you into structural gel with the intent of WAU getting it's hold on you, much as it did with Amy and the random saps throughout Theta. Of course, the fact that you're technically a corpse is probably reason for confusion.

I also noticed that using the healing thingies usually break lights or make something bad happen.
