(SPOILERS!) Who/what made Simon?
Hi I just finished the game and really enjoyed it. However I still don't know who or what made Simon and why. I'm not sure if it's meant to be a mystery or if it was explained and I just missed it. It seems like a very deliberate process that you have to go through like in the bit where you have to build a new body for Simon.

Was it the teleporting guy who wanted you to destroy the WAU? (Who was that guy anyway? The WAU's creator?).

Was it the WAU itself? If so why are the WAU's creatures always trying to kill Simon?

Anyone have any info I'd appreciate it!

Thanks in advance.

I'm wondering the same thing, and why activate Simon after so long? but yeah, I don't think the game really expalined that? or did we miss something?

I know that the Doc at the start used Simon's brain patterns for research, OK I understand that, but yeah, who made this new Simon and implanted his memories to the new body?

simon was made in the beginning that you saw before being in upsilon, it switches from the doctor office to the station because you switch from human simon, to neurograph simon

at some point you can find audio recordings of human simon and the doctor who took his scan while simon human is on his deathbead, and he tells the doctor to keep his scan for reserch so it can help other people and that it's like a part of him continues to live on

when you scan yourself (in the room with the prototype of the ark project) catherine tells you that the WAU made you, you are a chip in a dead body hold together by fusion gel inside the diving suit

Guess #1: Dr. Reed.
Guess #2: WAU, in some attempt to preserve humantity, did what it could in order to prevent a body (Dr. Reed) from dying.

Here's hoping that SuperSecret.rar is indeed depth and we can figure out what happens to Reed.

Spoiler in the headline. Wow. Thank you.

Fact is: The title of this is spoiling the game.

Considering Simon's diving suit has little clusters of WAU on it, I always assumed that WAU was the one who brought him online. Though that really does beg the question of how Reed's body wound up all the way in Upsilon, since the two last people who were there are accounted for and don't mention her. In fact, despite playing such a heavy part in the ARG, Reed isn't really mentioned anywhere outside of her brain scan data.

Well, I kind of got that Simon was a robot from the trailers, so I'm not sure it's such a big spoiler. The game even reveals that pretty soon.

Isn't possible that the dead robot on the floor was a former Catherine who helped make Simon moments before being destroyed? Having multiple Catherine's isn't exactly stretching it for the game and since we don't really know how it all works until the end we can't really figure it out how we got there until we finish the game.

The Catherine talking to you the entire time probably has no idea that it was another copy of herself that paved the way to the Simon helping her. Who is to say the original Catherine didn't make multiple copies of herself to help her around while ♥♥♥♥ was going to chaos?

The YouTube transmissions might throw a wrench in this, but current theory I'm going with is that after the WAU detonated everyone's blackboxes when Raleigh reached the power suits with the intention of heading down the climber most of Reed's head popped off along with everyone else who wasn't already either dead or integrated or Sarah (who intentionally burned her box after the WAU went nuts.) Logs put this about four months prior to Simon waking up in Upsilon. Either Reed was in physical contact with WAU at the time or else died close enough to Akers for him to try and "save" her or some other contrivance, but in any case we wind up with a mostly-headless-Imogen shuffling around the base. Judging by the bloodstains in the first room her corpse pushes its way in through the ducting behind the walls, rips the cortex assembly out of the helper that had been gathering dust in the corner since the pilot seats were declared off-limits, jams it into her stump, then climbs into the seat and tries to resurrect itself. This fails, so it defaults to the nearest match it can find - and of the four default neurographs on the cortex chip only one of them indicates an even remotely similar sort of brain injury.
Either that or WAU_Imogen actually had the helper for a head, but the head came loose when busting into the room and the above process was it trying to repair itself. Or Ross did it, somehow.

Well then who the heck made cat? Remember she was murdered. Was it the WAU that brought her back? How is it that Shes the only sane robot and the others are all messed up, like that one robot that "needs the blood"

Well she isn't the only robot. We see a few robots that are around that are not completely crazy. We have Cath who when seen was orginally a robot. We have the robot who saw himself as human telling you to go get help but then has to die for routing power to another area. And the harmless underwater robot you have to stun. Then you see other robots around that are dead.

Maybe the WAU didn't make those robots. Maybe as things were going down hill the Real Cath started making robot companions as the real versions of those people started to die. Then the WAU had started trying to get rid of those companions which is why we end up seeing them either destroyed or not able to move. Maybe the first line of defense was robots against robots but the WAU won that fight.

sorry, if that's been ansered before but i haven't found a plausible solution.

It took me 12+ hours to beat the game (have it on gog) but probably missed some rooms (like the storage room when trying to enter the comm-room at the beginning) but i never quite figures out who was the shadow person who was talking to simon, and later tellling him to poison the heart to kill the WAU.

Even if the WAU created Simon it wouldn't make sense for it make simon kill themelves. So was ist ever explained, who was that talking to simon or even a hint at that?

Later in the game that was Dr Ross. He was corrupted by the WAU, but not under its control. I don't think much of any monsters were rally under WAU control, though Akers (the blind guy with arms who catches you at one point) appeared to have enough of a mind left to willingly serve it.
