Technically yes and no, you get both, one before credits and the other after.

So no matter what you do during the game the ending wont change ?

That's disappointing. I've watched two "let's play" and in each they did different things. One killed Carl the robot and Amy the black woman on life support in the train tunnel, while the other spared both by doing things the hard way. Was hoping there would some divergence depending on what you did.

Is Amy ever mentioned again if she's left alive? Simon says he'll tell someone.

Just finished a few minutes ago. What I really want to know is what the difference is if at the end when you reach alpha, if you keep going through the door and let him live instead of giving him the virus.

I tried heading a ways down the corridor and the game was letting me, the creature was yelling at me to go back and do it. I ended up going back and doing it, but I'm really curious what happens otherwise.

Here is what'd happen if you didn't turn back and do that:

Ross (that's the creature talking to you, the crew member who worked on WAU) tells that if you won't kill WAU yourself, he will make you do it. He drags you back to the room where the heart is, you ask him to stop, as he goes on to explain how important it is to disable the AI, he gets eaten by the huge tapeworm fish that ate your robot guide while making your way to Tau. You can proceed or still kill the AI. I just went on.

The end: I launched the ARK, my copy that was left behind in the station got into a fight with catherine, lights went out, he Cried out to catherine not to leave him all alone. Credits rolled.

After the credits, game switched to the copy that made it to ARK. Woke up in a cave which led to a river by a forest, which led to an ocean with a futuristic city floating above it. I got to meet Catherine there, game over.

Man that was some long spoiler.

Alright, it seems things proceed pretty much the same though except I assume you still had your left arm the rest of the game for your playthrough

A little disappointing, but oh well. It was great overall.

That is disappointing, I was hoping to play through again and make different decisions..

I am also curious as to what happens if you say "yes" to the "are you ready to die?" question on the terminal... either the first time or again in the ark.

Does anyone know?

I think both the choices from the surveys and the ones you have to make during the game are there just to make you reflect how things are important. It does matter if you kill somebody who you know is already on the ARK? which is worse: to kill the last human survival and let her live, barely, jsut to stay alone on this nightmare waiting for a horrible death? or simply kill her?
Would Turning ON and OFF that simulation with that scientist (Wan, i think) mean that we are killing him everytime?
I mean, there are so many things to think on this game ....it's simply BEATIFUL.
Congrats to the DEVS.
WHAT A WONDERFUL GAME.

Nothing happened. Quite unrewarding and dissappointed though.

No change at all for endings.

Yeah, despite the no alternative outcome I still think this game is fantastic and delivered a very powerful and thought provoking story.

I would have liked an alternate ending just so I could have an excuse to play through it one more time =P

As it is I will likely play it again in a couple of months, just such a fantastic journey.

From what I read no which is why I decide to end everyones life at least those I can unplug, what's the point of keeping them alive? sure it makes me feel horrible to kill them or unplug them but at the same time it feels like I am doing them a favor and ending their miserable existence that will get them nowhere.

It makes you think about life and when it's worth living. Is it better to die or live a miserable existence? Am I doing them a favor by killing them to end their suffering? Is life only worth living if we're not suffering?

Then it leads to the ultimate question: What is life? Is it being able to allow your physical form to perform natural bodily functions? (i.e heart pumping, breathing, brain functioning) Is it a mental thing? (Living life by fulfilling goals, aspirations, having emotions) Is it a combination of both?

Though I honestly didn't think about any of these till much later, but looking back onto the decisions, the game can be very thought provoking if you let it.

I felt the same way.. but one thing was never quite clear to me.

For those who were pretty much embeded into the wau and barely even aware that I was there ( Mostly the black aldy with the lungs above her head)... it really made me wonder if I was doing the right thing.

Because from the outside, it might seem like they are indeed suffering, being all deformed and stuck to this terrible awful place.. but then I wonder. Whats going on inside their minds? THEIR reality? I knwo nothing of that.. Perhaps they are happy there, and they could have gone on living forever in this "simulation" provided by the wau.

I didstinctly remember unplugging one of the robots at one point and she distinctly said to me something alont the lines of "No, Why.. I was finally happy..."

That really made me question all the other "unplugs" I had done to that point. And later caused me to question if deleting the backup copies was the right thing to do.

Philosophically speaking, if what these people see or experience in their minds is happiness who am I to question it from the outside? Perhaps the only one trully suffering there was Simon, having to be awake and painfully aware of his surroundings.

This also bleeds over into wether or not the Ark is a worthwhile way of preserving humanity. If the simulation is good enough to keep people happy and they can have meaningful interactions with one another.. what does it matter that their entire world consists of a box flying through space?
