Btw, ingame schematics says that there are four models of robots. I found some not working old metal stuff which looks like third model, but it didn't have a chip.
Hey guys, I know this post is very old, but I thought you might find this interesting anyway, if you haven't figured it out on your own already.
I hate to break it to you both, but I bid you to reread the robot schematics very carefully.
The cute little guy we love so much is called the "K8(UH8)"- it is equipped with a "complex AN-7U" intelligence. In the notes, it says, specifically, that this model lacks a voice module and can only communicate using the simplistic beeps and whirrs.
The big guy outside is a BULL(UH3)) model- this is also the model you see hanging around outside various places, aggressively searching for you to take your structure gel.
From completing the game, we know that the consciousness of people (the brainscans) have been implemented into the bodies of these robots, via the toolchips/cortex chips.
(It appears those with toolchips have a much more basic functional ability. Remember the other robot around Delta? He was kinda crazy, wasn't he.)
Well, this guy, and the other BULL models use a "complex AN-5U" intelligence. Its very much similar, if not almost exactly the same (perhaps less advanced, even) than the cutie little K8-bot's (as well as TOPA ((m-UH0) if you care to know) AN-7U intelligence.
TL;DR, the little cutie-bot was every bit as intelligent and human as the other talking robot- he was even moreso aware. That is what the schematics were hinting at. If you kill the talking robot, the little guy will shy away from you and makes upsetting/panicked beeping noises, and then afterwards, refuses to come near you again and will not let you come close to it, either.
This game ♥♥♥♥♥♥ me up, man.
The other option is to murder the talking robot who is a brain scan, but not the sharpest knife in the drawer. So you are essentially killing C-3P0 right in front of R2D2.
