Failed to load config file

My game crashed earlier and now when I try and run the game through Steam I get a "Failed to load config file" error. Is anyone else getting this problem? I'd rather not uninstall/reinstall but I fear that may be what it comes down to

This might happen if the config gets corrupted. Delete the _user_keys.cfg and _user_settings.cfg in Documents\My Games\SOMA\Main

You might have to setup your graphics and keybinding again, but you wont have to reinstall the game

There was a blank user_settings file with nothing in it and after deleting it ran smoothly.

dont mind me asking but have you had any cases where the instalation finsishing with an update paused at the end? when i try to start this paused update it gives a disk write error. if you have had this issue at all i would like to know because i would like to play this game but i cant even get it to launch because of this issue. im not sure if there are corrupted files in the download or steam is just acting a ass.

Try restarting Steam. If that doesnt work check if you have enough HDD Space to install the game.
You can also try "Verify Integrity of Game Cache" under Properties for SOMA

i have about 70 gigs avalable for this game. and there is no reason for this game to not install right. i also restarted steam a ton of times and it doesnt sseem to work.

also the harddrive has no bad sectors and is completely fine. scanned completely

here is all what i did to try and fix this: restarting steam, checked hard drive for bad sectors, set steam to run with administrator, verified integrety of game cache which did nothing because it completed in a second meaning there is nothing to scan or the game is still encrypted).

This has been a problem for me for two days. I've tried everything. This is what my hpl says:

It sounds like you are missing some files. Have you tried "Verify Intergirty of Game Cache" in the properties of SOMA?
You could also try running Soma_NoSteam.exe

Nebej, I've verified for days. And I've done Soma_NoSteam.exe but my frames are awful. I have a great setup too.
i7 4790K 4.0Ghz Quad
16GB Ram
GTX 980 4GB.
But when it actually worked with the Steam version, it ran flawlessly.

Then i would suggest reinstalling the game from scratch. If that doenst work then you can try this guide:

I've reinstalled 3 times. None of the options in that forum work. I don't know why it happened.

Yup, just reinstalled again and same problem. I run every single game I have flawlessly, except this. When I use the No_Steam, my frames are ♥♥♥♥.

I finally fixed it. I was going through the Properties via Steam. I had to go to My Games from My Documents and delete the save file.
