This then leads up to the player being "aware" of what happens to Simon-4. Now sure, Simon-4 isn't aware of the events Simon-3 observed at the end, but the player maintains continuity as "Simon."
Simon-3 who knows...? (guess died)
Simon-4 keep up his life in the new world.
..and yes the lack of closure is surely intentional. Which is amazing for my point of view.
When you copy and paste a file the definition of ORIGINAL doesn't have any sense at all. (imo)
All we know is, for now, he's alone with the WAU in the Abyss.
I'd hope the expansion takes place after a long time of Simon just sitting and thinking (maybe powered down so it's ages later), and you go back up and visit the facility now either cleared, or completely devoid of even robotic life (whichever WAU choice is canon). Maybe try to fix catherine and then the end consists of a cliffhanger of him heading up to the surface to see if maybe life is finally possible again.
Then maybe a second game takes place after all the ash and fire has settled, and simon heads to the ruins of Toronto to find out exactly what became of his real self. And the WAU has extended it's reach to the land by now. With monstrosities of humans everywhere.
Depends on how Toronto was affected I guess.
see this guy gets it everyone else cant handle a bleak ending, its not even open ended yet u dont have "closure" bc he didnt find happiness or die on screen?? jesus
Why are u so angry lol...this is a beautiful game and the whole reason the ending was what it was is so that players would talk about it and try and come up with their own theories...not sure why people theorizing about the game makes them "sick." I also don't think it's about "needing everything spelled out..." It's a heavy game with a heavy ending that's whole purpose is to make you question humanity, which leads to real-life discussions. I hope you're a lot more open-minded now than you were when you commented on this half a decade ago. :p
Meanwhile all the digital people are happy in the sky, living lovely lives. So that's OK. Assuming a digital copy of a mind is as good as a real one, and you've been playing the whole game as one of those, so presumably you, or Simon, would think it's good enough.
