My Mac is 4 years newer than yours.
I normally don't have issues with playing games on it.
If a particular game keeps, crashing, I use one of my back up PCs.
It looks it could be your older operating system, and/or graphics card, as the dev's reply.
Have you tried lowering your resolution for Soma?
