other games with similar mechanics for drawers, doors, etc
I love the mechanics for opening drawers and handling objects like levers or power cables in this game. You can also find this in penumbra and amnesia which are from the same studio I think.

I wonder if there are more games out there that use the same or a similar mechanic.
Maybe someone knows any?

I thought this is pretty popular setup but once that you ask, suddenly emptiness.

The points of similarity, I would start with an ability to pick up and examine an object, rotating it.

Speaking of physics, remember my first impression of Simon walking underwater. Even with the narrative background, it is still too pony, although it kind of did the job enough. Underwater engine, believable one, that would be something worth to watch the playthrough of.

Lack of weapon systems is definitely a pro in such a deal.

I can recommend CONARIUM. Very similar physics and gameplay mechanic as you asked. An intriguing Lovecraftian story although it lacks of horror elements.

Thanks to all for the responses so far.
In think these mechanics add so much to the "feeling real" of a game, it's a pity that it is still so uncommon... maybe for reasons some of you just stated.

When I think of some other games I really like - survival titles, or in general games where you need to search for loot - the experience would be so much more intense and immersive with a mechanic like this!

So I hope to see more games built with this great engine in the future.

If I remember correctly, "Cryostasis - the sleep of reason" also had this mechanic for opening doors at least. It's from 2005 I think. Quite a fine game, too.

Remember once I played a game listed below, it was unnecessarily thematically related to SOMA, but there is something with the formula; you can also research the other game of the dev:

Unfortunately "CRYOSTASIS" was a pretty much average game. Somehow it was very overrated back then. I remember it was boring, story and pacing was very slow.

"DON'T KNOCK TWICE" and "LAYERS OF FEAR". I remember I've played these games too but I didn't finished. They're waiting for me in my library yet I can easily recommend. Pretty good atmospheric horror games including similar mechanics for drawers, doors, etc...

New game Visage has these mechanics! It's pretty good too. You should give it a look!
