[Spoilers] Why was Simon not aware of this?
At site Omicron, when Simon was copied by Catherine Chun to the body of Raleigh Herber for the diving suit, he realized that he became a secondary copy and the previous copy which was in the body of Imogen Reed still existed. He even became furious with Catherine for not informing him about this.

So my question is why did Simon not then realize that when he would be transferred to the ARK he would be "copied" like he was previously and another version of him would remain here, being that he had previously witnessed this scenario before at Omicron?

Is it related to the coin toss talk he had with Catherine regarding that because i got a little confused by that, please help me clarify on this friends, thanks a lot :)

Another question is why they needed to copy "them" to Ark before launch. For my understanding the Ark already contained scan of Catherine (and possibly Simon too). They wanted to copy last pieces of information they gathered before launch but is it really needed? But doing it didn't they "kill" another Catherine and Simon who was already "living" in the Ark?
Questions.... questions....

We are only talking about the perspective of the Simon that was left behind. The new Simon on the ark believes he made it and it worked. To him it did work. He woke up and knows no different. It's really a matter of perspective.

I think an asteroid will eventually hit and destroy the ark anyway so it seemed like a lot of wasted effort.

Simon couldn't have been on the ark unless the human Catherine put those legacy scans on it. I didn't find any notes saying that she did though. As for Catherine, perhaps she didn't want Simon to be alone there, or she might just have wanted to preserve herself even if it means there would be 2 Catherines on the ark or the Catherine on the ark would be deleted. I mean, if it's an exact copy of the human Catherine then it makes sense that they would fight for their own survival even at the expense of their own copies.

The thing is, Simon keeps refering being uploaded to the ark. Not copied to the ark.
So I think that after his conversation/scream session to Cath he assumed his current digital copy would have been uploaded to the ark and deleted from his body. So there won't be another lost Simon stuck on pathos2. Like the other Simon suit. But that takes more time and energy than to just copy him onto the ark.

As for herself. The human Cath mentioned she had to remove her own digital copy from the ark cause it was to 'real' and didn't play nice with the others. Or she just wanted to be sure that there would be a Cath on the ark that knows Simon. So he has atleast someone to talk to. Well, and so she has someone to talk to. There was only one person on Pathos that that would actually talk to her. Everybody els just thought she was a creep. That can be a lonely feeling already. Even more when you remember you are going to get stuck with those people for the rest of existance.

You guys are forgetting a major part of the dialogue and story. At the end, Simon exclaims "They are not us!"

You guys aren't noticing how easy it is for Simon to dismiss the fact that, had he "won" the coin toss, he would just end up leaving ANOTHER Simon back on Earth in the Pilot Seat. So he went from feeling bad for the Simon copy that was left in the previous Pilot Seat, and choose to kill him (I would believe this to be canon), to not having any cares whatsoever about the Simon copy that was left in the final Pilot Seat. This is also proving by the fact that, in the post credits gameplay, THAT Simon is just like "nice, we made it" when talking to Catherine. He literally become what Catherine was, someone who thinks the other copies are just that; copies.

Personally, I think since the brain scans are literally copying over ALL memories and experiences, that couldn't be anything else than the birth of another human. We say that mortality and the like makes us human, but isn't it moreso the ability to have free will, to fall in love, to find humor in differents things, to use complex thinking... Those make us way more human than just being able to die.

Of course, in the context of the game, being alive is way worse than being dead (unless you're on the ARK), considering the fact that all humans are dead and you're at the bottom of the ocean with no one to talk to and literally nothing to do except sit there until your battery runs dry.

Uhmm, nope.
But maybe if you get some more friends sayin the same i might chance my mind. :)

... No what? You need to explain.

Another thing to mention is that the whole "coin toss" thing that Catherine mentioned.. Yeah that's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. The ONLY reason that Simon 3 thought there was a whole "coin toss" was because of the continuity, something that was mentioned multiple times throughout the game. Simon 3 was conditioned out of Simon 2's belief that his consciousness was going to transfer to Herber's body, THAT is why when the player's PoV transfers to Simon 3, you can hear Simon 2 saying that the transfer didn't work.

When Simon 3's copy is uploaded into the ARK, Simon 3 was conditioned to believe that HIS CONSCIOUSNESS was going to transfer to the ARK. Simon 3 literally got Simon 2'd in the sense that he experienced what Simon 2 experienced, when Simon 2 realized that his consciousness did not transfer to Herber's body, and instead stayed with Reed's body.

It's all really simple when you think about it. Anyways, Catherine manipulated Simon 2 because she realized he was in a fragile state of mind, his consciousness (and every Simon thereafter) was a result of 100 years of time travel; from Simon's original consciousness to 100 years in the future in a desolate underwater research facility filled with dread and destruction. Simon may be a little stupid towards the end of the game, yes. But to expect him to understand how everything works after a few hours, or days.... No. Simon was just plainly manipulated.
