Any recommendations for games like SOMA would be most welcome.

Narcosis was AMAZING and had a very similar underwater, creepy, "feeling of being watched and going insane" vibe. Similar in that aspect, but, not quite as immersive as Soma is (plus, Soma is a longer game) but I really enjoyed it.

Observer is not set underwater like Soma is, but it's stealth, with a similar monster hunting you every now and again, and, it is set in a futuristic world where people are half human / half robot, you can go into people's memories by plugging into their minds, but the data you see in the world of Observer just becomes... glitchy, and at some parts in the game, it really felt like you yourself were spiraling into madness because of how unsettling and bizarre the whole thing was.

Doorways (it's a whole series) is also fantastic. The one I recommended is the newest one in the series and it's brilliant.

There are good couple of similar topics already present, use the searchbar or rewind couple of pages back through the forum.

Anything else from Frictional Games.

Well they made Amnesia, Penumbra, anything else? When you go to the storepage of a game on Steam, there are names of publisher and developer listed. If you click on any of these, games entitled to them will be sorted out. Very handy.

I was more looking for games outside of Frictional Games.

Well how the story was depicted was certainly one of the highlights. The atmosphere of the game was also something I found to be most appealing. As well as it being abit of a walking sim. I have recently been looking at a game called Narcosis as it seems to be similar to SOMA. I have the first Outlast but I am a bit sceptical to playing due to the horror elements you mentioned.

Thanks for that, I will definitely look into those.

For the horror gameplay, I would definitely buy Outlast, Amnesia, or Penumbra. If you enjoy a story with impact, like Soma's, I would reccomend the Vanishing of Ethan Carter. If you're looking for a little bit of both, I highly recommend Alien Isolation

I like the walking sim part to SOMA. I do tourism in almost all of games where it is possible. To me, to just go straight to the target as if in a racing game is a waste of material.

Likewise. It would be a shame if you did not try and immerse yourself in the world and story in favour for rushing to the end of the game. Such aspects are chiefly why I was so engaged with SOMA in the first place.

Honestly, I feel like you'd love Observer and Narcosis. Both are very story driven and I found myself very invested in them.

If you do not mind some shooters, y'know what I recommend, Prey [2006]. The classic Prey. You can get in on secondhand PC-CD for a very reasonable price, I am sure. It is a great sci-fi game, technically the best from the IdTech4 brothers. There are IdTech4 tweaks to max out the game for modern systems. Let me know if you want to know.

Nice. I have been thinking about getting the 2017 Prey though considering that 2006 Prey is not on steam anymore :(

Also, another game from among the grim IdTech4 brothers, the Doom 3:

You may think it is some kind of joke, but in terms of ambience, the soundscape, the tension, Doom 3 absolutely stands up to SOMA or even surpasses it. With proper mods, give it a try. It is good and cheap, you cannot go wrong with it. You will see, the further you go in the game, the more the environmental atmosphere builds up. Just in terms of the story, remember this is Doom, okay, this is un-SOMA, so it may even be kind of hilarious. Again, get the mods. Consider also giving Doom 3 a try on Nightmare difficulty.
