SOMA

SOMA won't start up
I have tried multiple times to start up SOMA on my PC. When i try to play it it gives me an option of either "Play Soma" or "Play Mod". Clicking on either of those closes out of the window then doesn't do anything. My activity says that i am in the game for a couple of seconds then goes back to online. I tried loading it from steam and the actual file in steamapps. I went to the Troubleshooting guide and it says that i have to Go to /iDocuments\My Games\SOMA and open the file HPL.log. I can't do this because the My Games folder doesn't even exist!

I think this may be a result of my "decent but a bit crappy" video card. I have an AMD Radeon R7 200 (was really thinking about changing it but because of the whole bit-mining thing that i don't understand all of the good video cards are over $500) and i'm not sure if it's better than the minimum AMD Radeon HD 5750. Does anyone know if my video card is better than the minimum? If it is then i have no idea what is causing the problem and it probably won't matter if i get a new video card because it won't work anyway.

(Thank god i got this when it was on sale for $9 otherwise it would've been $30 down the drain)

EDIT\\ My computer specs:
OS: Windows 10
CPU - AMD Ryzen 1700
Motherboard - MSI Tomohawk Arctic B350
Memory - 2 x 8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX
Video - AMD Radeon R7 200 Series (WILL CHANGE SOON)
Power Supply - EV3A 450w 80 Plus Bronze

I am having a laptop with hybrid graphics including RadeonR7-m445 and I played the game in satisfying quality.

I do not have C++ 2010 installed. However I do have 2012, 2013, and 2015. Should i uninstall those?

no just install C++2010 and see
For anyone who is having the same problem, here's what I did to get it working. If you try to start the game with the application extention in your SOMA folder (which is located in your steam folder under steamapps\common) and you get a message saying something like "MSVCP.dll could not be located", then you are missing the visual redist. files you need for the game to start. You actually don't need to download anything. Everything you need is already on your computer. Go to your SOMA folder and look for " _CommonRedist" and follow that until you reach three folders named 2005, 2008, and 2010. Install all the applications in those three folders. You should now have all the versions of C++ you need to start the game. I don't know why they don't install when you install the game itself, but at least it gives you the option to manualy install them without having to download anything.

Pardon my ignorance but what applications and from where?

Based on HevyMetal's response...

Shortversion: He probably means for you to run all "vcredist" located in the year subfolders in [yourSOMAinstallpath]\_CommonRedist\vcredist.

Longversion: You can get to it as well by right clicking the SOMA steam entry, clicking on properties in the pop up menu, in the new window click on the local files tab, and then click browse local files. Then click on the _CommonRedist folder and then the vcredist folder. In each year name file there are two files .exe files. Run all six of those (in each year file).

Apparently, on some installs these redistributables aren't running on install. Which means that you don't have the appropriate visual c libraries for the game to run. Once these libraries are installed the game *should* start properly (as long as you aren't missing something else). If the game still doesn't start, then IDK.

FYI as far as I remember you shouldn't have a problem with having other newer versions of vcredist as well. Just install the included versions as well, it shouldn't overide any new versions.

[editted for clarity]
