I wonder if sacrificial alters was the bug or if you got unlucky with something else.

By sheer coincidence I posted a topic about the problem you mention. The mistake is you chose 25 helms instead of the Braziers. You can see in the video I posted that I'm maxed at lvl 25 because I prioritised XP over what appears to be the easiest quests...the ones labelled easiest are not always the easiest and may cripple you for late game...

The game is by design intended to have a grind-element to it via the Virtues and Weapons. It is OK to fail to summon the Jotunn and win... That's hard for most players to understand.
Agree with a lot of this, sums up my impressions. Yeah, the tedium isn't worth the ease for sure. I think the almost overload of too many weapons that you have a hard time leveling up to empower yourself due to HOW many options you get, ironically, really makes you feel weak no matter what character you're on.
Think this is a big factor for why this'll be a wishlist to keep an eye on rather than a wishlist as a must buy for now. Curious to see what comes of it for sure, though.
Thank you for your feedback! Rest assured, we’re paying close attention to discussions like this.
In fact, everything you’ve mentioned is exactly why we’re doing the demo (and eventually early access) — so we can keep iterating and bring the game up to players' expectations.
We’re working on a lot of changes and improvements!
Cheers!
