Alternatively if you dont want to invest hundreds of hours in what is somewhat meh of a story, you can just google and read it.
From a gameplay perspective it would be easyer for you to get accostomed to X3 universe if you play earlier games, since each new game in a series was adding on top of previous one, expanding gameplay mechanic and stuff. But there are comparatively little difference between X3 reunion and TC/AP.
Just be ready to spend hundreds of hours if you take long route.
Yes, it can be compared to single player EVE but without trolls, griefers, scammers and other ppl whose only sole purpose of being in game is ruining somebodye elses day. In that respect X3 feels more alive and realistic than EVE, with trade flowing and ppl minding their own buisness unlike EVE where its basically kill or be killed around every corner.
So, I've been trying to figure out how the different titles relate to each other...Wikipedia says that AP is an add on to TC...so is AP a stand-alone title with more extra stuff than TC? Or is it like old Starcraft, where Brood War adds extra stuff?
Well, its a standalone addon.... if that makes any sense. It has all mechanic and ships and stuff from TC along with additional content, but game universe is in different state (there is a war going thus faction relations are different). Also AP has different plots. Basically its like Napoleon Total War to Empire Total War except without game features being removed.
Well, not thousands for storyline alone per game. In X:BtF, X2 and X3R storyline will take, if I count station management and such, aprox. 100 hours per game. X3 TC/AP, well, there are more plots. One of them will require few hundred mil Cr to complete.
And AP I am not 100% sure but, atleast steam says so, you need TC to play AP.
I'm really interested in this series but I want to jump in at a point where it's possible to enjoy the meat and potatoes of the game without the thousand hour story investment.
Go with TC/Ap then, or even better idea might be just picking up Rebirth. Seeing how much things have changed there, it can be safely considered a reboot for X series.
Game was awesome for me but after that extensive play i suddenly found i dont have more things to do, got big ships, killed xenons, not maxed ranks.
Now im thinking about going back to game / series, never played newer ones, are they any better with giving targets to play "end game" gear? hard enemies or some "well done, you did a good job" from devs :) ?
Steam achievements are a good motivator to play for me but not sure if i want to buy these games only to get achivs.
I know there are plenty mods but never tried them.
Could You tell me what You thing about that? It was very fun to explore, build, develop, plan on building factories but what after that?
If you did everything in Reunion and got fed up with it, then Terran Conflict and Albion Prelude would be pretty much more of the same. Yes, there are new plots, but investing hundreds of hours into a game for a literally around 2 pages of plot text might be not worth it since story is not the strongest part of X games. There are new ships, new sectors and maybe couple of features here and there, but all of them not gamechanging enought to wattant distinct difference fro Reunion. There are many good mods for TC/Ap though.
If you want something completely new from Reunion, then I highly reccomend X Rebirth. X universe changed a lot there while still being recognizable, and Rebirth does a lot things right compared to X3..
(in Reunion).
Problem is only with reason to play after you got all stuff, what to do with that stuff so probably mods are my solution if i decide to play any X again older than Rebirth.
By the way, if someone is interested in a bit similar game but 2d, Space Rangers HD A War Apart is very good for me, has similar kind of complexity but of course in a less amount. It's better than i expected but not every fan of X will like it, worth checking for sure, its on steam.
Sorry, but i cant agree with you on a point that Rebirth is "undone". If you base your opinion on those years old reviews or occasional haters that come and chant the same crap they did 2 years ago, then it would be incorrect, mildly speaking. Rebirth is solid and has been for a while, especially since patch 3.0.
But the choice is yours anyway, I will not be the one trying to persuade you. I just think that currently its a perfect time to get Rebirth with Tladi DLC seeing how cheap bundle is.
Spacerangers is awesome game. Its similiar to X series except that much less time consuming and being in 2D. It also has around 100 of text quests which are a great game in itself. Highly reccomend that one.
Oh, and there are SpaceWolves trilogy currently on sale I think. Also a good one. It kinda like homeworld but with more roleplaying elements involved.
Text quests are my favourite part in Space Rangers.
Space Wolves is unknown to me, another one to check.
Must clone myself to play all of this.
