Autopilot is dangerous at times. Mainly if you run in faster seta. But I've had large and lx ships regularly crash I to stations. Best having them dock while you are out of sector.

autopilot has only a no collision when undocking.

Don't worry. There is ship upgrade "Docking Computer" . Once you have that, docking is instant from 4.7k distance. You never have to use that auto pilot again.

Ok, ty for answers ) This autopilot bit rage me, because he kill me far from save point ...

Note: When undocking very large ships, especially from certain types of docks, the limited collision protection provided by autopilot will not save you. (Their collision boxes are just too darn big and certain stations have intersecting collision boxes with them.)

Never, ever, personally pilot or be in the same sector as a very large ship (TL, M1/2) that you own is docking or undocking. Never.

Does that still happen!? It was a horrible problem back in the day (like version 1.2) but I thought they were working fine now.

They might work fine in AP or, perhaps, the last patch helped fix that. (I didn't think it was a bugfix patch, though.) But, when I was playing the game regularly, it was an issue and greatly frustrating for those who didn't know about it, to be sure. I just don't risk it. :)

still happens, heck they even colide with asteroids, i lost a Zentaur because he crashed into an asteroid in wing flight.

dont use SETA while you are auto piloting

It used to be a rather hit & miss thing from PC to PC. Some folks (like me) could have SETA cranked up and still get through an astroid field (eventually) just fine. Others could turn SETA off and still crash while docking at a station with nobody/nothing around. Never did figure out why some would and some wouldn't and I guess Egosoft never did, either.

Still happens in 2024...

X3 AI pilots are horrible in sector. Really, Reunion is the only one where wingmen will actually match your vector and speed, instead of doing the rubberband yo-yo thing to where they eventually start running into your player ship or each other..

As for autopilot, you have to be careful using it with SETA. As well as going thru jumpgates at full speed with SETA. Also don't want to park in front of a gates or you'll get rammed by incoming ships. M1's and XL's are the one's that will really ruin your day, since they use the whole gate (unlike X4 where the gates are 100x bigger, and your ship is immune to damage while Autopilot is active.)

Have to be "real" careful if you like using the Kestral. AI loves to smash that rocket ship into everything, which will result in instant death.

As for docking... I would just manual dock. I'd never use autopilot... mainly since autopilot just takes too long with it's whole move to to the end of the landing lights and rotate in place, thing. The AI has it's biggest problems around Astroid stations.... so always go manual when dealing with those or at least until you're on the docking side of the factory..

If you're Terran,
autopilot didn't kill you
the person that coded that autopilot killed you

In a world where AGI is illegal
all that remains is code created by non-intelligent's
