What similar game would you play in 2021?
Hey folks,

I am looking for a similar game with modern graphics. Singleplayer is ok as I don't like the pressure of having to play a game constantly.

With X4 beeing a reduced arcade game, what is your game of choice in 2021?

Cheers!

there is none, that's the problem. We only got X3. I would've long left if there was an alternative. But all of them have artificial limits how big you can dream or force you to do things in a specific way. In my opinion you don't get this specific X3 feeling anywhere else.

Exactly, the new X universe games are awful. I mean in the way of controls, map and travel (highways etc.). Also there isn`t a game similar to X3. Such a shame :-(

Void Destroyer 2 looks like it might be promising. Maybe not as fleshed out as the X Universe, but still seems like a similar game.
Tried it out and refunded it. Really poor attempt at a space empire sandbox.

No Man's Sky is really good. And you gets to go planet-side.

Yeah, NMS is good but far from a similar concept.

I tried Eve Online, Star Citizen, Elite Dangerous etc. Not bad but not similar either.:/

What about X Rebirth? I know, this game is hated by many people for its awful release. But since then it has improved significantly and is despite its flaws in my opinion the closest to X3 you can get.
i haven't played X:R since i got it on release day and i gotta say that i'm not looking forward to ever have a 2nd look at it again.

that's just how it is with absolute disasterous game releases.
all you got to hear was "oh, just give it a go some months later. remember that egosoft always releases buggy products.".
this excuse is just garbage. and the game has so many flaws which go way beyond just "being buggy on release". the game just isn't what it's supposed to be.

we're missing so many elements from previous titles that it's just a game hardcore x veterans discard and don't consider a x game.

I myself played X2, X3 (R&TC) and XR. I think i count as a Veteran too. When X Rebirth launched, i was very disapointed by this game. 3 months later i tried it again and had a lot of fun with it. Egosoft patched many things since that. I still dislike some things at this game, but overall i can work with it. The vanilla version is ok, with both dlcs its pretty solid, but it becomes a good game with the many mods that exist for this game. Egosoft left us with a mediocre game and the community improved it significantly. This shouldnt happen normaly, but its the reality we live in. X Rebirth is in my opinion more an x game than X4 is. Sadly there are many people out there who dislike the game mainly for its disastrous launch, which is understandable, but still kind of unfair. There are many mods who implement new star systems, races, ships, stations and even one making other ships playable. I can only recommend trying it again with mods, instead of clinging to a game that doesnt gets younger and no other alternative in sight.

X-games are a genre on their own, there is afaik nothing really like it .. in space.
The games require a wee bit moar power so for todayz market they are still great games, talking X2, X3 that is.
There are games that do space-combat quite nicely, or space-empire, or .. but nothing that combines it all like X does.

There is Starsector, which lets you build up a fleet, colonize planets, and build industries. The combat is phenomenal. There is also Helium Rain, which I've never played but heard referred to as "X-lite."

there is nothing imo that compares with this made recently

Evochron Legacy kind of scratches this game's itch, but nothing really compares. Evochron has things hidden in sectors, let's you build space stations (and cities), you can trade and fight, but it ain't really the same.

is starsector similar to this i mean if this was starsector in a 3D format it'd be crazy. (haven't played yet was gifted this)
