Are there big battles in X3:TC
I have been having trouble getting into the game, and am wondering how big the battles get. If there are big battles later that would motivate me to play. I've looked at screenshots but havent seen any that appear to be big. Are there big battles, like dozens of ships?

Not sure you can encounter anything like the assault on rebuilt Death Star in the 6th episode of Star Wars saga with many capital ship on both sides. Having finished about two-thirds of the plots, i had basically how to solve different tasks by flying one ship of any level against one to many enemy ships of any levels that could be scattered along the sector. It's rather privateer or freelancer simulator by its style with exploration and a lot of grind. I'd say most of these plots are poorly developed and glitchy but i like it as a sandbox. And you need a big enough wallet before to go into any battle with a big fleet. But i haven't seen any predefined military big battles. It's neither like the "Fractured Space" nor "Star Conflict" those i never played lol.

Thats a shame. Its funny you mentioned that Star Wars scene because that is exactly what I was thinking of when I typed the message.

I think for this case you have to imagine Frodo Baggins, who sneaks through the friendly and not very lands to his goal for a very long period of time in the Lord of the rings.

No, there is not. There are occasional meeting of say xenon and argon, or boron and split. But to get into a really big fllet battles you would have to assault xenon sectors with your own fleet.

X3:AP might be a better choice for you, as there`s constant war going on in war sectors, with frequent large fleets erasing each other.

Yes there is! Just take the "Operation: Final Fury" plot and if you can survive till the end with far higher requirements than what's needed, then you'll be participating in a battle between a huge Commonwealth armada against the Kha'ak. A warning, tho. Depend on you fighting rank and your vessels, you may have to deal with some Kha'ak flag ships during the final battle. And your fps may drop to the bottom when soo many AI shooting at each other. :D

PS: If you wonder what Operation Final Fury is, just get yourself some fighting ranks and fly around Omicron lyrae. Look for a small fighter asking for some help to deal with the Kha'ak. I forgot his name. XD

Ill have to give AP a shot. I actually already own that one too. I bought these on sale ages ago and never touched them.

Its a shame I have never been able to find a game to scratch that Tie Fighter/X-Wing/Wing Commander itch.

Well, in TC patrol mission on high fighter rank spawn a metric f-ton of enemies, so this is also a choice:)

i wouldn't call that a fleet. completed it not too long ago, used my Osaka and was basically alone 99% of the time. and flying the ~240 km with 54m/s isn't fun :P

Hmm, if im not mistaken, when I was in that batlle the Argon sent one M1 and two M2 with several corvettes and bunch of fighters. While the Spilt sent their M2 and some corvettes. I don't remember seeing any Bororn or Paranid, tho. I rode a Heavy Dragon myself, so no slugish flight. I remember it was so tense, being chased by some corvettes while sneaking and destroying Kha'aks base, forced me to lure them into the fray and let Commonwealth forces shoot them down, or when I accidentally shoot a missiile to a Kha'ak flag ship and got their attention. My battle rank was Vindicator or Warlord, my vessels were some cap'ed M3 fighters, my Heavy Dragon, a Tiger, a TL and bunch or trading vessels. All of them, except the dragon, docked in various sectors. Perhaps different stats or timing makes different experience?

I think the problem is that the game was designed to fly alone. You can earn enough credits to buy a bunch of ships, but it won't be a full-fledged fleet with its inherent HQ. You can take part in any big battle with a bunch of casual ships, but you won't see any coordination between them or a presence of high command for them or yourself. Maybe it needs to be a strong military simulator to get a truly unforgettable feeling of complicity to have a whole bunch of radio conversations and other voiced messages to understand what your fleet, your allies and, maybe, your enemies are doing consciously rather than just following AI behavior. Although it may kill freedom. Something like that was in Wing Commander or Starlancer. But now they destroy each other in one sector and break each other in another in the vicinity of Jump Gates, not finding own way.

Oh, you mean cinematic like space battle? Well, yeah. I agree. I guess this game doesn't have something that. And the game AI is just so unreliable when on screen. Commanding a fleet while dodging bullets and missiles is also quite hard to do in realtime, not to mentions it's costly. Perhaps because this game is focusing on trading sims rather than space battle in realtime open world/space environtment.

Had to do that part in a Titan, took me 20-30 minutes in SETA to get between objectives ;-;

in my last playthrough i had 2 carriers each with 60 fighters and about another 60 capital Destroyer ships trying to fight pirate carriers and xenon in their own sectors some of the battles were huge and i often lost millions of credits worth of ships but yes awesome fun
