Missions... how to find them?

So after reading a bit here and there, many people mention transport-, "taxi-", combat and other contracts you can get on stations... one description spoke about a certain symbol appearing in the right corner of a station's UI, but i cant seem to find any... all there is is the menu on the right, where i can trade,contact personal and such, no missions/ contracts though ... i started a game with the last option (custom game or what ever), which i guess will not give me any main story missions, but how about those other missions?

how do i find them? where? do i need something special? i am currently in the first system and tried a few stations, most of them factories and one dock... should i try my luck in another sector?

aaaahhhh omg... i guess they meant the symbol on the target box of a station from space! silly me, thanks anyway :D

In case you had missed it, the station shows only one symbol (& I have no idea how it picks which one) even when there is more than one type of mission available.

Meaning that even if you're looking for specific types of mission (such as "Taxis") you should check any station with a mission icon.

Also "Taxi" is a generic term for any passenger transport mission, be it the "Trade" Military Personnel transport, or either of the "Think" Passenger Transports (one requires you to pick the passenger up in a TP, though you can then transfer them to something faster for delivery, whilst the other doesn't care about ship class).
