Starting a Silicon Mine, need some pointers
Hey all,

So I've got enough credits together for a silicon mine, and I've set one up on a yield 16 asteroid (I know, it's not super high, but I'm just experimenting for the sake of experimenting haha), and what I wonder is how good are the profits? Is it a good source for steady income?

And also, general pointers are greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Generally, you want to find the highest yields possible to reduce the amount of time it takes to generate one 'load' of silicon wafers. If you go to alter the factory's buy and sell prices, it will have a number under the parentheses for the product, that is the cost to manufacture each product per unit. You want the sale price to be above this to make a profit. Be sure that there's a solar plant nearby and somewhere to sell the silicon.

You can also pull asteroids closer together to.link them to make complexes. Add in a solar plant and you don't have to supply the mines with power.

Mining is the worst yield possible in the game. HEPT factories are very good. Solar factories are very good. Space Weed, so many others are much better than mining stations. I never build them anymore. More trouble than they are worth to set up.

Yeah. I usually only build mines if I needed to use them for the ore for other things. Like doing the hub plot, having massive complexes to help with microchip production was a must.

Thanks for the replies all! I realize mining may not be the best starting point, but I've already set up my mind, so at least I can try to run it,

The mind has energy cells in it, but is still showing an alert icon in my property menu. Anyone know what I still need to do?

Give them more energy cells? You need to get a ship and setup a trader to go out and find energy cells keep the station going. You can setup a station manager.

If you look at the station info, the number below the stored wares needed for production is how many of each ware is needed for one production cycle.

I got it working. Thanks all!

Do not rely on the universe to supply your empire the resources it needs. Build mines. Just build them on bigger asteroids next time ;)

As for your station alert, did you give your station any money and configure it?

Mines are the first step for a autonom complex..there are a few reason to build a big complex behind the jumper "Sprungtore"..moving mines with a "traktorstrahl..to buy in one paranid sector" it is helpful for the performance while arriving in a sector and the stations in the complex are not suddenly in the way of a pirate route.
