If you really want the cybrex, just keep restarting until you get them. ("debugtooltip", mouse-over until you see precursor_5 on the systems surrounding your star.) Otherwise you might be disappointed pushing yourself through a game with a story you don't enjoy so much.
Um, I think Grunur=Baol. Grunur is the start of the thread you follow and Baol is where you end. So it's not an either/or, they are the same. Or maybe by "the two" you mean cybrex & Baol.
Baol is a powerful playthrough, IMO. The pop growth is fantastic, and things like pops and influence are some of the most important resources in the game. This runs a risk of late-game lag.
If you're worried about overpopulation, at some point choose Arcology Project, and you can make your own Ecumenopoloi - HUGE amounts of jobs available. Also, you can just keep building ringworlds. So you'll always have space.
Rememer that to get the precursor-relics, it's ALL archeolgoy, so it takes some time and a dedicated archeolgy scientist & boat.
The Baol relic best only if you want to make your entire empire full of gaia worlds, because it has the power to make gaia worlds. That could help your ring-dwellers get off-ring and onto a planet. Passively it increases pop growth by 10% which is good. But really, I'd say "Life-seeded" is the perfect origin, because your pops start on a gaia planet.
Baol is best for genetic ascension, but not for: aquatics, cave-dwellers, lithoids, synthetic ascension, cybernetics, etc. because: either the species have their own habitation bonuses, or the machine-types don't receive the benefit of the +10 pop growth.
I like the Baol if I do a playthrough that hits some of these characteristics. So I'm just sharing my experience with them in case you find it helpful.
I didn't think that was possible.
That also explains my current game where I'm not finding many of my precursor's anomalies.
I only got like 2/6 this game. At the very corner of my empire, when my empire is quite vast, but spread the other direction. Doh!
Sadly I don't have Minor Artifacts DLC.

Thanks! I may use that!
I've been getting the same ones over and over...
I've never gotten that one!
I keep getting Irassians and Vults.
EDIT: Oh that one needs a DLC I don't have. Phooey, I was looking forward to Zroni.
I just tried this mod.
It gave me 2 precursors in the same game. I don't think that's supposed to happen.
EDIT: 3 now. Yeah, this is bugged.
