Empire Questions
So i am playing the shattered ring origin, imperialist, masterful crafters and sovereign guardians. wanted a cool thematic playthrough that was really difficult.

So I love the cybrex precursors for RP reasons, being they created the ring world my species lives on, their war is what destroyed it, and obviously the relic and armies,

However, I keep getting the Grunur and last Baol precursor and I am torn between the two, I know people will probably say the last Baol for the pop speed (which could actually F me if they grow to fast on one segment) and the ability to create a gaia world every so often.

But which is actually better for my playthrough? thoughts and opinions appreciated

Shattered ring is awesome, a total blast.

If you really want the cybrex, just keep restarting until you get them. ("debugtooltip", mouse-over until you see precursor_5 on the systems surrounding your star.) Otherwise you might be disappointed pushing yourself through a game with a story you don't enjoy so much.

Um, I think Grunur=Baol. Grunur is the start of the thread you follow and Baol is where you end. So it's not an either/or, they are the same. Or maybe by "the two" you mean cybrex & Baol.

Baol is a powerful playthrough, IMO. The pop growth is fantastic, and things like pops and influence are some of the most important resources in the game. This runs a risk of late-game lag.

If you're worried about overpopulation, at some point choose Arcology Project, and you can make your own Ecumenopoloi - HUGE amounts of jobs available. Also, you can just keep building ringworlds. So you'll always have space.

Rememer that to get the precursor-relics, it's ALL archeolgoy, so it takes some time and a dedicated archeolgy scientist & boat.

The Baol relic best only if you want to make your entire empire full of gaia worlds, because it has the power to make gaia worlds. That could help your ring-dwellers get off-ring and onto a planet. Passively it increases pop growth by 10% which is good. But really, I'd say "Life-seeded" is the perfect origin, because your pops start on a gaia planet.

Baol is best for genetic ascension, but not for: aquatics, cave-dwellers, lithoids, synthetic ascension, cybernetics, etc. because: either the species have their own habitation bonuses, or the machine-types don't receive the benefit of the +10 pop growth.

I like the Baol if I do a playthrough that hits some of these characteristics. So I'm just sharing my experience with them in case you find it helpful.

If you're gonna use console to check just get the mod to straight up choose the precursor.

I'm pretty sure one game I got one one precursor, but had to reload a save from before I found it for some reason, then I found a different precursor instead.

I didn't think that was possible.

Yes, precursors are attached to systems, and all the systems relating to one precursor are grouped together. Where each zone meets a zone of a different precursor, those systems can have two or three precursors "attached" to that system. So if your science ships are scouting in that border area, it could randomly turn up one precursor instead of another.

Ah ok, thanks.

That also explains my current game where I'm not finding many of my precursor's anomalies.

I seem to only find about 4/6 each time. (I play smaller galaxies, as my machine can't keep up with the lag, so I have less systems to inspect.) You can save up your minor artifacts, and go to the menu on the left to Society Management (F8), tab "relics," and if you have saved up 500, you can spend them to get another precursor relic or archeological dig site. I wind up doing that a couple times to keep it moving along. Then save another 750 minor relics to get the "secret" of your precursor. Only after that do I spend minor relics on other things.

I only got like 2/6 this game. At the very corner of my empire, when my empire is quite vast, but spread the other direction. Doh!

Sadly I don't have Minor Artifacts DLC.

Just pointing out one QoL mod that solves your problem, without needing to save scum constantly:

Thanks! I may use that!

I've been getting the same ones over and over...
Nothing quite like playing Machine Empires and getting the Zroni 3 campaigns in a row...

I've never gotten that one!

I keep getting Irassians and Vults.

EDIT: Oh that one needs a DLC I don't have. Phooey, I was looking forward to Zroni.

I just tried this mod.

It gave me 2 precursors in the same game. I don't think that's supposed to happen.

EDIT: 3 now. Yeah, this is bugged.

Not sure how that happened. Been using it for all of my recent games and haven't seen it myself. Did you change something in the precursors event file by chance?
