Neighbors too close
I must be doing something wrong. 1000 systems, only 9 empires, using "No clustered Starts Mod" and sure enough - neighbors all around me. I hate that. It just kills the game for me.

Just bad luck. Wipe them out or vassalize them. Hard if the game difficulty is high and they are fed starts. Pion or vassal start neighbour might be a bit too much for an enjoyable game

I tried again. Even WORSE. Empire right next to me. I deleted Stellaris. Couldn't take it any more.

Do keep in mind that empires are supposed to start right next to you depending on the origin you've set. Aside from that, if it happens as you described, I'd say it's a mod issue.

You need to choose "Clusters" for empire spawns, then the mod works

What's the difference? What does "clusters" do? Forgive my ignorance.

The setting is required for the mod to work.

Define "neighboors".

When I tried same with max amount of empires using a Random spawn - AI spawned way too far (5+ jumps from my homeworld).

P.S. Do you realize that several builds NEED a nearby empire for early conquest/vassalisation?

AI empires. I reinstalled the game and added the "No clusters start" and set the game start to "Clusters" and am playing now. Things are working better now. I have been playing fow a couple of hours and so far have not come in contact with any AI.

Oh, I thought about crazy clowns ... :steamhappy:

How close AI should be for you to call him "neighboors"? Because I guess - random start is perfectly fine, instead you want unreasonable like AI being on opposite side of galaxy.

I would repeat - 5+ jumps for closest AI is already too far because some game builds need someone to kill early. Such mod nerf them hard.

Believe it or not, I have over 200 hrs in the game but I've been away from it for along time. I need to do a game where I can relearn without immediately dealing with enemies. Thanks.

You need to get lucky where you're alone with half of the galaxy empty and it takes expedition missions with science ships just to find the AI

If not on Ironman, use the console command OBSERVE when starting a game, you can at least then start a game where the AIs spawn more to your liking.

Also many times, 1 AI has the federation origin and turns into 3. Can happen multiple times.

I get it no one likes being boxed in right away. I don't even like meeting other aliens for at least 20 years.

I restart my Ironman games sometimes up to 10 times just to get a more spaced out start to my liking

That's real good info. Didn't know about 'observe'. Even with the mod "No Clustered Starts" I get hemmed in. Am playing now [a few hrs in], 1000 systems, only 9 AI empires - no others, and I have 2 empires next to me. It seems the algorithms want to quickly form a map like Europa Universalis.

No clustered starts doesn't do a whole lot
It just makes them all somewhat more evenly spaced

I play with 11 on a Large galaxy. Try starting over a few times with OBSERVE and you'll see, it's also good to test Habitable worlds, wormholes in the settings and you'll see the difference.
Make wormholes 5x and its hard not to get bored with exploration - unless you're me that has all the anomalies memorized
